Xiaomi HyperOS 2.0 may out with the new “LROFS” file system

If sources are to be believed, then a new file system is in the pipeline from Xiaomi due to be integrated with the upcoming HyperOS 2.0 update. The LROFS, or Logical Read-Only File System, will therefore deviate from ext4 and EROFS file systems the company has been sticking to for years now, leaping in performance and efficiency for Xiaomi devices.

What is LROFS?

LROFS is the acronym for Logical Read-Only File System and is a newly designed file system by Xiaomi. According to Coolan “Don’t Know,” who is reportedly well versed in tech circles, this will use innovative compression algorithms with multiple self-generated technologies integrated into it for better data storage and retrieval processes.

Probably the greatest trait of LROFS, however, is that it is read-only; much like EROFS — Enhanced Read-Only File System — which Xiaomi has used in the past. Where it differs is largely at performance metrics, with regards to a number of operations where it outperforms both EXT4 and EROFS.

Key Advantages of LROFS

  1. Better compression: LROFS embedded a far better algorithm that gives a huge reduction in space usage to system files. This will potentially provide faster read speed and optimize storage for space-limited devices.
  2. Better Performance: Initial reports hint that LROFS is going to improve overall system performance by reducing file access and read times. This will make a very huge difference in applications designed to demand access to vast amounts of data quickly, the obvious cases being high-end games and professional photography apps.
  3. Read-Only Nature: Since LROFS is read-only in nature, it can also supply improvements in the role of security and integrity for system files. One of the easy vectors for security attacks is the unauthorized modifications of system files. Such risks can be mitigated by a read-only system, offering a much more secure environment to users.
  4. Future-Proofing: Geared forward with increasing technological evolution in Xiaomi devices, it faces the challenge of needing more flexibility and efficiency in its file system. Therefore, LROFS is designed with future technologies to be able to support new applications that could come up demanding more from the system, like updates.

Inclusion in HyperOS 2.0

There were speculations that LROFS was already offered in the internal codes of HyperOS 1.5, to the effect that Xiaomi would have been testing this new file system since quite a while ago. Working on HyperOS 2.0, Xiaomi intends to move ahead with LROFS in full steam and plans full utilization of it across all compatible devices.

The HyperOS 2.0, now equipped with LROFS, will significantly improve user experience by being more responsive and stable. The update is highly anticipated not only by Xiaomi’s fans but also by tech observers who are interested in how this new filesystem performs under real-life conditions.

This is why Xiaomi has decided to develop LROFS and integrate it with HyperOS 2.0, which in itself is a fairly bold step for setting up a new benchmark regarding file systems in Android devices. Keeping entities centered on advanced compressions and performance optimizations, Xiaomi has done much more toward enhancing its OS; basically, this act will further lead to innovation on the mobile tech front. With a view on the official rollout of HyperOS 2.0, it will all boil down to how well LROFS could perform and eventually shape up to affect the overall functionality and efficiency of Xiaomi devices. This development could indeed be a game-changer in this very competitive landscape that mobile operating systems are part of.

I want that in the next update. You remove the call and message application. The design of these 2 apps sucks.
