Xiaomi to step up expansion with new smart manufacturing base in Beijing

In what could be termed a major move for Xiaomi and Beijing’s economic scenario, this tech giant has already geared up to initiate the construction process of the second phase of its intelligent manufacturing industrial base.

This second phase was located at the Majuqiao Intelligent Manufacturing Base inside Yizhuang New Town. More surprising is that the construction began less than 24 hours after the land transaction confirmation, stating the efficiency of Xiaomi and support from local policies.

Swift Action Post Land Acquisition

On July 26, the day immediately following land acquisition, Xiaomi began construction on this ambitious project. This was quick development following an announcement by the Beijing Municipal Planning and Natural Resources Commission that Xiaomi Jingxi Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Xiaomi Communications Technology, secured 0106 in Block YZ00-0606 for an industrial plot at about RMB842 million.

Strategic Location and Future Plans

The newly acquired site is east of Xiaomi’s existing automobile factory, suggesting strategic expansion that underlines both its automotive and smart manufacturing ambitions. Listing documents showed the land would serve largely the construction of new energy intelligent connected vehicle and parts manufacturing projects.

It involves substantial financial commitments made in the project, with the fixed asset investment pegged at no less than RMB 2.6 billion. This base will create an annual output value of more than RMB 16 billion after completion and reaching full operational capacity. This coincides with Xiaomi’s ambitions to scale up manufacturing capabilities while enhancing product structure, in particular smart vehicles.

Government Oversight and Support

The rapid commencement of construction was spotlighted in an inspection by Zhang Qiang, Secretary of the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone Working Committee, in the morning of July 31. In the “four no’s and two direct” approach, he made an inspection without notification, without greeting, with no report, with no accompanying reception, directly to the grassroots and the scene.

This approach underlines how hands-on the government is in having all major projects facilitated and ensuring stringent adherence to safety and flood prevention measures.

Implications for Xiaomi and the Industry

This development shows that this is not only a win for Xiaomi but befits the objective of Beijing’s region to develop into a high-tech industrial hub. Knowing a thing or two about intelligent manufacturing and cities, with an increasingly growing market for smart automobiles, Xiaomi places itself at the very forefront of this future industry transformation.

That this project has quickly moved from land acquisition to the stage of actual construction also reflects a new benchmark in terms of execution speed, showcasing Xiaomi’s operational excellence and a business-friendly environment yearly fostered within Beijing’s Economic and Technological Development Zone.

The extension of Xiaomi to Majuqiao Intelligent Manufacturing Base, with a clear focus on smart vehicles and related technologies, is one bold step towards the future of automotive and smart manufacturing. With strategic investments and strong support from the government, Xiaomi is bound to drive innovation and growth within this very region, further entrenching its position as one of the global technology and manufacturing leaders.

This not only helps to increase the manufacturing capability of Xiaomi but tends to contribute quite a lot of input on Beijing’s Yizhuang New Town in economic development, promising a future where smart technology and sustainable development will go along toward perfect harmony.
