Starting January 2025, Xiaomi has made some key changes in the way it approaches the Bootloader unlocking policy for devices running HyperOS. The changes are supposed to make the process smoother while still keeping security and control over device modifications intact.
Key Policy Updates
- Bound to Only One Device Unlocking: In respect of each application, Users may only have the right to apply for unlocking the Bootloader for only one bound device within the validity period of an application on and after January 1, 2025.
- Application of Existing Rules for 2023–2024 Until the End of the Year: Applications approved between November 8, 2023, and December 31, 2024, allow for a total of up to three devices during this period. The permission for unlocking will automatically be closed at 23:59 on December 31, 2024, and the unlocking operation must be completed before that.
- Forced Re-locking for MIUI Users when Migrating to HyperOS: Users on MIUI firmware currently running unlocked Bootloader needs to re-lock that Bootloader in order to receive some form of update notifications for a push regarding HyperOS end.
- Permissions in Time-Limits: The permission to unlock is valid for a limited time only.
- Waiting period of unlocking: this means the time between binding and unlocking should be taken into consideration to avoid expiration before unlocking.
- Mainland China-Specific Rules: This policy applies only to users and devices sold in mainland China. Users outside of mainland China should refer to the regional Bootloader unlocking policy.
Practical Implications
For users who want to unlock their Xiaomi device Bootloader: Ensure that you are aware of the effective date and follow the new rule of limiting unlocking to one device per application effective from January 2025. Try and secure an early plan for unlocking to avoid issues that may be brought about by the waiting period or application expiration. Users migrating to HyperOS with unlocked MIUI devices need to re-lock the Bootloader in order to receive updates seamlessly.
The updated policy of Xiaomi balances user flexibility with security and compliance. Limiting permissions for unlocking and aligning with the deployment of HyperOS, the company ensured tighter control over its ecosystem.
Bastards, why make it worse? It’s already a pain to send an application, and now it’s even worse.
I have a poco m6 so when come hyper os 2.0
Come on, let’s see how you can unlock the bootloader if it’s not possible on hyper os even now
This is the reason why I will NOT buy any Xiaomi, Redmi, or Poco device again. They could disable your device at anytime.
My phone is redmi 12c. My phone is not getting hyperos.I want to hyper os update now.
I’m really starting to hate Xiaomi because of its unlock policy.
This is the first and last time i bought a Xiaomi phone and tablet.
