Xiaomi’s new “Kunlun” SUV spied on camera

Xiaomi’s highly anticipated entry into the SUV category has been made even more exciting with the emergence of several spy shots on the internet today. The giant three-row SUV codenamed “Kunlun” is Xiaomi’s ambitious entry into venturing beyond its blockbuster SU7 sedan launch.

Thanks to respected blogger @极速拍档 (Speedsters), these images are our first look at Xiaomi’s extended-range SUV that is set to hit stores in 2026. This is part of Xiaomi’s strategic move for automotive innovation and is in line with the company’s ongoing emphasis on advanced electric vehicle technology that has already wowed critics across the world.

Differentiating Size and Design Features

The spy photos reveal a big car with dimensions suggesting that Xiaomi is positioning itself for the premium family SUV segment. From what can be seen:

  • Square body shape with a commanding presence
  • Three-row seating configuration expected
  • Roof-mounted LiDAR system for advanced driver assistance
  • Family-centered design strategy

The images appear to be shots taken from a video that also showed fences with designs of cars by Xiaomi under development, giving them credibility as authentic.

Xiaomi’s More Ambitious Auto Roadmap

This “Kunlun” SUV is in keeping with Xiaomi’s ambitious plans for cars. According to a tech roadmap leaked by Bosch last September by accident, Xiaomi has the following schedule for releasing vehicles:

  1. 2025: SU7 Ultra (high-performance variant)
  2. 2025: First SUV (MX11 codename)
  3. 2026: Extended-range SUV (the “Kunlun” model seen in these photos)

The two upcoming SUV models are said to be fitted with rear-wheel steer systems, mirroring Xiaomi’s focus on incorporating advanced technology into vehicles.

Technical Innovation

The extended-range setup is a hint that Xiaomi is developing a solution to address range anxiety without compromising on performance. This is unlike their pure electric SU7 sedan, meaning that Xiaomi is broadening powertrain strategies to target different segments.

The presence of LiDAR on top shows that there is still emphasis on advanced driver assistance systems and maybe autonomous drive functions in Xiaomi cars.
