Xiaomi’s latest watch clears 3C certification: Arrive with eSIM and satellite communication

The upcoming smartwatch from Xiaomi has cleared the 3C certification on October 16 with a model number: M2428W1 and was mentioned to be connected to the network by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in China previously, on October 11. That might speak volumes about the ‘exciting’ new features on the upcoming gadget, such as eSIM support, or even satellite communication.

Redmi Watch eSIM Version and Satellite Communication

Blogger @Experience more believes now this could be an eSIM enabled version of the Redmi Watch meant for making calls and connecting to the internet sans-smartphone. Moreover, there is proof that Xiaomi is working on another smartwatch, enabling users to link up with the satellite communication said to be providing connectivity all over the world, even when no mobile networks are available.

Xiaomi’s New Watch Specifications

Also, lately, there has surfaced another device with model number M2424W1, which was recently connected to the network. It follows reports that mention it will support eSIM technology, with an independent eUICC chip, therefore likely targeted for the Xiaomi Watch S4 series. The last related product was Xiaomi Watch S3 in October 2023, with lots of advanced specifications like:

  • 1.43-inch AMOLED screen with 326PPI and 600 nits brightness
  • 12-channel heart rate detection
  • L1+L5 dual-frequency satellite positioning – Up to 15 days of Bluetooth life
  • OS Xiaomi Surge – NFC and independent eSIM communication

What to Expect from the New Xiaomi Smartwatch

Specific details of the M2428W1 and M2424W1, however, for now remain unknown. Still, it is pretty evident that Xiaomi is looking to pull out all their stops in setting up new smartwatches. With eSIM support, it will have connectivity sans the need to pair a phone, while the possible support for satellite communication should be another leap toward using it for those commuting or working in the wilderness.

Bearing the trends of pricing that Xiaomi generally pulls off with their products, it is rather indicative that this series shall not be an exception and would keep competitive pricing with feature-rich devices. Expect more information soon as these new watches approach their official release, possibly within the Xiaomi Watch S4 series lineup.
