Xiaomi will phase out GetApps from India

In one major development for Indian Xiaomi users, the company has now reportedly announced that the GetApps store will be phased out in India. Starting in January 2025, Xiaomi will no longer be preloading or supporting GetApps on existing and future devices in the country. Here is what needs to be known about the switch and how it tends to affect Xiaomi users in India.

Key Changes for Indian Users

  1. Shutting down GetApps: Xiaomi is removing the GetApps application from all devices within India starting from January 2025. Neither new models nor old ones on sale will house the application.
  2. Indus Appstore to Replace from PhonePe: Indus Appstore, operated by PhonePe, will replace the default app store for Xiaomi users in India, namely GetApps. The new store will further take charge of providing system app updates, a function previously performed with the help of GetApps.
  3. Indus Services App for System Update: The service will be continued internally with a new brand, Indus Services App, by the GetApps team for seamless system updates and will keep on pushing vital updates for all proprietary apps developed by Xiaomi. This will ensure users stay updated without disrupting the service.

What that means for Xiaomi Users

This move practically indicates a serious change in strategy as far as Xiaomi has adopted towards the Indian market. The integration with Indus Appstore could hence offer users a more localized app experience, in tune with recent trends of partnerships between Indian technology companies and smartphone manufacturers. Another advantage it can do is that the system app update can be much smoother, which is seamlessly handled by one platform. For users, this will possibly mean more personalized app recommendations and better promotions, targeted at the Indian market. However, it would be interesting to see how the shift affects user experience, especially for those who have been used to GetApps for years.

What Do You Think?

This has brought a stir in discussion among the users regarding Xiaomi. Will you be excited about this new app store, or are you worried about the switch? Tell us what you think, share your experiences with us!
