Xiaomi unintentionally reveals HyperOS 2.2 release date

Xiaomi has been working quietly on HyperOS 2.2, but the company may have just accidentally revealed the release timeline. Xiaomi just published an explanation on how it is deploying its new minimalist camera app, which was introduced with the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. But a closer look at the rollout timeline for that camera update shows that HyperOS 2.2 may arrive sooner than expected.

HyperOS 2.2 development is underway

As of March 2025, no new internal beta builds are available for HyperOS 2.2, indicating development is ongoing slowly. Nonetheless, from the camera update timeline, new features should become available starting mid-May. Given that major software releases are usually bundled with releases of this type, it is highly likely that HyperOS 2.2 will be announced towards the end of April, with a Mi Pilot beta version to follow soon afterward.

Expected HyperOS 2.2 Release Timeline

Based on Xiaomi’s standard rollout plan, the following can be expected:

• Late April 2025: Mi Pilot releases of HyperOS 2.2
• Early May 2025:  Stable releases of Mi Pilot
• Mid-May 2025: Flagship devices stable release rollout
• Jun–Jul 2025: Wider rollout to other models

This is consistent with what Xiaomi has done in the past. The new Game Turbo features, for example, arrived with the REDMI K80 series, and they came to all supported devices with HyperOS 2.1. The same will happen with the new minimalistic camera app, which will arrive bundled with HyperOS 2.2.

What to Expect in HyperOS 2.2

Though all the new features have not been officially confirmed by Xiaomi, these are some of the expected additions:

• Simplified Camera UI – An overhauled interface with enhanced user experience
• New AI Features – More sophisticated photo and video processing
• Optimized Performance – Better efficiency and enhanced handling of memory
• Enhanced Game Turbo 6.1 – More mobile gaming improvements
• System-wide UI Adjustments – Slight design improvements and smoother animations
