Xiaomi tests new YU9 SUV in extreme -25°C conditions

Xiaomi executives have publicly initiated the validation phase for the company’s first extended-range electric vehicle (EREV), tentatively designated the Xiaomi YU9. Prototypes are currently executing extreme endurance testing across a 700-kilometer trajectory from Mohe to Heihe under -25°C conditions. This D-segment SUV is scheduled for commercial release in 2026.

Powertrain Architecture

The vehicle utilizes a range-extended hybrid configuration. Engineering specifications point to an 80 kWh battery pack, targeting a pure electric range exceeding 400 km exclusive of the internal combustion generator’s output. This marks a divergence from the pure BEV architecture of the Xiaomi SU7.

Chassis & Dimensions

The hardware falls within the large D-segment classification. The chassis measures over 5.2 meters in length with a height of approximately 1.8 meters. The camouflaged units confirm a traditional SUV silhouette intended to maximize interior volume, contrasting with the aerodynamic focus of the SU7 sedan.

Portfolio Expansion

The YU9 represents one component of a four-model expansion roadmap. The engineering pipeline includes a facelifted Xiaomi SU7, an “Executive” SU7 variant, and two distinct EREV SUV configurations (differentiated by 5-seater and 7-seater internal layouts).

Hardware Indicators

Validation imagery provided by Xiaomi Group VP Zhang Jianhui identifies active exterior status hardware, specifically a blue illumination sequence triggered upon vehicle entry. This suggests updated handshake protocols for the UWB (Ultra-Wideband) digital key system.
