Xiaomi Surge S2 may use the similar modem structure as Google Pixel 10

A recent report claims that Xiaomi will integrate the MediaTek T90 modem into its upcoming Surge S2 chipset, allegedly powering the Xiaomi 15S Pro. With this, Xiaomi will join the likes of other major smartphone manufacturers such as Google in embracing the next generation of MediaTek modems.

MediaTek T900 Modem and Its Role in the Industry

The MediaTek T900 is based on an “M85” advanced modem architecture and, man; there have been a lot of reports in recent times which will certainly drive the whole ecosystem into overdrive. Recently, there are reports saying it would support Release 17 of the 5G 3GPP standard as the version for even much-improved connectivity and much greater reliability.

For starters, it is definite; the Google Pixel 10 is expected to flaunt the presence of this very chip – T900 with another strong performer, Tensor G5, while Xiaomi takes on it pretty well for just Surge S2 by sporting the probable T90s variant of the SoC.

Xiaomi’s In-House SoC to Feature MediaTek’s T90 Flagship 5G Modem

The core DNA of the T900 should be shared with MediaTek’s T90 modem but possibly feature some optimizations or configurations with specific relevance to the Xiaomi ecosystem.

Xiaomi Surge S2: A Strategic Leap

The Surge S2 will mark the continued effort of Xiaomi to develop its in-house processors, a legacy that started with the Surge S1 chipset. The pairing of the Surge S2 with MediaTek’s T90 modem could enable advanced 5G connectivity features like faster network aggregation, better efficiency, and wider band support.

The integration of the Surge S2 into the Xiaomi 15S Pro aligns with the company’s strategy of providing cutting-edge technology that keeps it competitive in the premium smartphone market. With the Surge S2 powering the 15S Pro, it is expected to aim at users who want nothing but top-notch performance, especially in 5G connectivity.

Why MediaTek Modems Are Gaining Traction

MediaTek has also been at the forefront of modem innovation and lately has been very aggressively serious in the 5G space. The fact that it is able to balance high performance with energy efficiency in its modems is also what appeals to a segment of manufacturers at the moment as they look for upping the ante in terms of the battery life of their offerings without compromising speed. For Xiaomi, including a MediaTek modem in its Surge S2 chipset underlines its confidence in MediaTek’s IP and its ability to provide users with a seamless connectivity experience.

A Glimpse into the Future

Meanwhile, a combination of the chipset and the MediaTek T90 modem is quite an impressive event for the 15S Pro. This could represent Xiaomi’s ambition towards innovations and tight control of their hardware-software ecosystem. Given that Google is already using MediaTek T900 in their Tensor G5 processor, adding to that Xiaomi also tried a similar option, which made it undeniable that modem technologies are carving a strong space into the premium segment smartphone offered by MediaTek. Due to that, the appearance of Xiaomi 15S Pro is really proximate; all interested phone observers and analysts will definitely scrutinize the performance of a phone equipped with such powerful features like Surge S2 Chipset combined with a modem, MediaTek T90. Possibly, this could have rung in a new kind of standard in the department of connectivity and performance at Xiaomi.
