Recently, Xiaomi Auto issued the 86th episode of its tremendously popular Q&A series to answer a raft of user questions about the highly publicized Xiaomi SU7 Ultra. In this episode, Xiaomi appeared clearly committed to offering a high-performance, technologically advanced car that is ready for the track and intelligently capable on the road. Here are the main points from the Q&A.
LiDAR Integration: No Plans to Remove
There is one that asks if Xiaomi would sell SU7 Ultra without LiDAR. Xiaomi has decided not to delete LiDAR from the SU7 Ultra. Since its positioning is a high-performance technology sedan, LiDAR cannot be deleted to carry the Xiaomi flagship intelligent driving ability.
Moreover, Xiaomi has made the module aerodynamically efficient to minimize possible influences on the track performance and daily driving endurance of a vehicle. The SU7 Ultra features 1548PS of power, withxiaomi limiting LiDAR’s influence on performance.
Disabling Boost Mode Animation
The 1.4.0 software update brought the ability to disable the animation of one-click Boost mode. This can be done via Settings > Driving Preferences. If one disables this animation, the central control screen will not switch from the default view after enabling Boost mode. Xiaomi also warns one to be careful and check that driving conditions are safe while using Boost mode, especially on slippery or complex roads.
Custom Braking System for Track Performance
On the track version of the SU7 Ultra, Xiaomi brought in extensive details about the custom braking system in collaboration with the best in the industry:
- Carbon Ceramic Brake Discs: The discs are provided by Jinbo Co., Ltd.; they are oversize and feature increased life expectancy with greater resistance to thermal decay, hence offering stability during hard driving on the track.
- High-Performance Brake Calipers: Engineered by Akebono®️, the calipers use six pistons in the front and four pistons in the rear to deliver precise brake control.
- Brake Pads: Provided by ENDLESS®️, a top-tier brand in racing, these brake pads further elevate braking efficiency.
It has undergone a range of severe tests on tracks such as Nürburgring to ensure excellent braking force and stability in the case of continuous high-speed braking. With a record of 100-0 km/h braking distance, mere 30.8 meters, the SU7 Ultra maintains elevated performance even after multiple high-speed stops.
Adjustable Coilover Shock Absorbers
The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is fitted or can be fitted with BILSTEIN EVO T1 coilover shock absorbers tuned by Xiaomi for the Nürburgring. The setup has given stiffer suspension compared to typical air springs to give a driving experience pretty much like that of a racing car. They can adjust damping without lifting the vehicle due to easily accessible knobs on the front and the rear shock absorbers.
However, in modifying the height of the coilover system, it involves raising the car and changing the spring’s compression.
But that’s not all: the SU7 Ultra also features a dual-chamber closed air spring with highly dynamic, variable-damping shock absorbers that continuously adapt in real time to driving mode, road conditions, and vehicle dynamics. This provides the perfect balance of comfort on everyday drives and much-needed stiffness on track.
Dual-Drum System and Advanced Features
Beyond performance, Xiaomi designed the SU7 Ultra with convenience in mind for the user. Equipped with a dual-drum braking system, it merges seamlessly with the mastery of advanced software integration by Xiaomi, creating a truly high-tech and user-friendly driving experience.
