Xiaomi SU7 destroyed VW’s sales with 381,000 units in 2 years

In a massive milestone for its automotive division, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has officially announced the final numbers for the first-generation Xiaomi SU7. Following a statistical review, the company confirmed that its debut EV delivered over 381,000 units in less than two years (April 2024 – Feb 2026).

During a Lunar New Year broadcast, Lei Jun revealed that the last unit of the original model (nearly 370,000th produced) has rolled off the production line, marking the end of an era.

Putting it in Perspective: Xiaomi vs. Volkswagen

To understand the scale of this achievement, we compare Xiaomi’s ~190,000 annual average against the global giant Volkswagen (VW):

  • The Sedan War (SU7 vs. VW ID.7): Xiaomi has outsold VW’s flagship electric sedan by a massive margin. While the Xiaomi SU7 reached 381,000 units in under two years, the VW ID.7 struggles to reach even 50,000 – 60,000 units annually on the global market.

  • The Volume War (SU7 vs. VW ID.4): Despite being a sedan sold primarily in China, the SU7’s volume matches VW’s best-selling electric SUV, the ID.4, which averages approximately 190,000 – 200,000 units per year globally.

The Next Chapter

With the first generation retired, Xiaomi has transitioned to the New Generation SU7, which began pre-orders on January 7th. The new lineup sees a slight price increase:

  • Standard: 229,900 Yuan (+14,000)

  • Pro: 259,900 Yuan (+14,000)

  • Max: 309,900 Yuan (+10,000)
