An innovative “Everything Connected with One Card – eSIM Technology Industry Seminar” took place last week at the renowned China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), with the most talent in mobile connectivity under one roof. The historic event placed Xiaomi front and center with other leaders in the industry speaking about the path forward for eSIM technology that is set to transform the way that devices connect around the globe. With close to 40 participants from the world of operators, equipment manufacturers, and chipmakers, the seminar showcased the remarkable pace of the adoption of eSIM across Xiaomi’s global device ecosystem. China’s Huge Market Potential for eSIM Technology
Xie Yi, the Secretary General of the Telecommunication Terminal Industry Association of China, opened the event with a speech that highlighted the huge market potential of China for eSIM technology. The diverse range of usage scenarios paired with the huge base of consumers makes China the ideal platform for eSIM innovation. It exactly fits the strategy of Xiaomi: creating products that address multiple usage scenarios in different categories of devices.
The keynote presentation included Lu Limin, Director of the eSIM Operation Support Center of China Unicom, discussing their “eSIM Industry Management Working Committee” and describing China Unicom’s approaches toward driving industry maturity with collaborations. It was further announced that China Unicom has quietly gone live with an “iPhone eSIM website” in anticipation of full services, but the current functionality is restricted.
The international eSIM implementation of Xiaomi
Xiaomi Technology Co., Ltd. Senior Engineer Wang Zhancheng presented an in-depth presentation of Xiaomi’s extensive international eSIM support across its lineup of products. His presentation outlined:

- Sun Hengbo of Tsinghua Tongxin Microelectronics explained how next-generation eSIM capabilities will become increasingly advanced with increased uses across all-encompassing scenarios
- Apple standards department senior manager Liang Huarui emphasized the advantages of eSIM in technology, the environment, and safety
- Lenovo Connect Senior Product Manager Wei Jun stressed how eSIM offers stable connectivity support for the AI PCs
- Lin Shengyu of Shanghai Bailianke Technology presented testing frameworks for different implementations of eSIM
In the exchange session, the representatives of OPPO emphasized the significance of machine-card binding standards, and the representatives of NXP emphasized its emphasis on safety and user privacy in the Chinese market. The representatives of Jide emphasized the need for localization of international standards for the promotion of China’s eSIM industry growth.
