Following months of active development, Xiaomi has almost finalized its development on HyperOS 2, the second generation of the company’s custom operating system based on the HyperConnect ecosystem. Following the official issue tracker, Xiaomi did not create any new bug fixes or reports in the last 15 days, which implies that the HyperOS 2 development cycle is moving towards the end of its maintenance phase. At the meantime, the attention of the company has apparently moved forward towards the HyperOS 3 and its global release in the near future.
No Bug Fix in Two Weeks
The in-house development spreadsheet, which is used to monitor HyperOS bugs, reveals that the most recent patches were installed more than two weeks ago. There have been no new bugs reported since then, and the resolution progress of active bugs has slowed considerably. This is the kind of trend that indicates the stabilizing of software branch — the period in which extensive development work is done and just necessary maintenance remains.
HyperOS 3 Rollout Already Underway
Xiaomi has announced the launch of the China-stable HyperOS 3 today, taking a significant step in the global software hierarchy of the company. HyperOS 3 is founded on Android 15, which brings new-redesigning animations, an optimized Control Center, better privacy features, and AI-powered features. Xiaomi’s official release states that the global launch is to start this October, with devices such as the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14T series flagships in the beginning.
Security Updates for Retired Devices
Not all devices would upgrade to HyperOS 3. Xiaomi would ensure security support for some of the models that stick with HyperOS 2 — particularly ones with longer refresh rates of between one to two years. Such devices would receive periodic security patches notwithstanding the lack of large feature improvements.
