Xiaomi Pad 7 receives Iindustry-leading 6 years of updates

A shocking revelation has come in from the Xiaomi Product Security Center as the company makes its most aggressive software support promise to date for the newly announced Xiaomi Pad 7 series. Adopting a pioneering approach to long-term tablet support, the Xiaomi Pad 7 will get a whopping 4 major Android version updates and 6 years of security patches, compared to the more modest but nonetheless significant 2 major updates and 3 years of security support promised to the Pro version. This new approach represents a major departure from Xiaomi’s previous practices.

Various Support Strategies for Various Models

The differentiated support strategy also illustrates the subtle approach Xiaomi takes to its tablet family. The regular Xiaomi Pad 7 boasts the high-end treatment in the form of its 4+6 support strategy, and users will ultimately get to use Android 19 when it comes out.

At the same time, the Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro takes a more traditional update approach with its 2+3 support promise, up to Android 17. The different strategies probably mirror Xiaomi’s positioning in the market for the two products.

The support timeline for every model consists of

  • Xiaomi Pad 7: Android 16, 17, 18, and 19 updates + security patches until 2030
  • Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro: Android 16 and 17 updates + security patches through to 2027

Launched in October 2024, the two devices boast high-end specs surrounding a stunning 11.2-inch screen. The display comes with 3.2K resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, 3:2 aspect ratio, and 800 nits peak brightness to create an incredible canvas for productivity and entertainment.
