Xiaomi officially confirms REDMI Turbo 5 series launch date: Meet the future POCO X8 Pro

The wait for Xiaomi’s next performance king is officially over. Xiaomi executives Lu Weibing and Lei Jun have confirmed that the highly anticipated Redmi Turbo 5 series will officially launch on January 29th at 19:00 (China time).

While the launch event is taking place in China, this is a critical update for global users. We know that the Redmi Turbo 5 Max is slated to hit global markets as the POCO X8 Pro Max, while the standard model will likely arrive as the POCO X8 Pro. This upcoming series promises to redefine the mid-range market with specs that honestly feel like they belong in a flagship.

TL;DR

  • Launch Date: The series officially debuts on January 29th at 19:00 in China.
  • Global Names: The Redmi Turbo 5 Max will rebrand globally as the POCO X8 Pro Max.
  • Key Specs: Features the debut of the Dimensity 9500s chip and a massive 9000mAh battery.
  • Unique Perk: Confirmed 5-year battery warranty with free replacement if health drops below 80%.

The “Max” Performance: Dimensity 9500s Debut

Xiaomi is positioning the Redmi Turbo 5 Max to fill the “soldering gap” in the 2000-3000 CNY ($275 – $415 USD) price range. Lu Weibing emphasized that despite rising memory costs, the goal is to deliver “Max performance” and “Max experience” to young users.

The device will be the first to feature the Dimensity 9500s chipset, built on TSMC’s cutting-edge N3E process. With a benchmark score reportedly hitting 3.61 million, this chip allows the Turbo 5 Max to outperform many flagship devices priced significantly higher.

A Battery Monster (With a Catch for Global Users)

The most shocking spec revealed is the battery. The Chinese Redmi Turbo 5 Max packs a staggering 9000mAh Xiaomi Gold Sand Battery. Using Xiaomi HyperOS‘s latest frequency modulation technology, it rivals the battery life of 10,000mAh competitors.

However, we must temper expectations for the international release. Global markets usually see slightly smaller battery capacities compared to their Chinese counterparts due to stricter safety regulations and faster charging standards. While the POCO X8 Pro Max will still have excellent battery life, don’t expect the full 9000mAh unit to make the trip overseas.

Unprecedented Warranty and Charging

In a move to build immense trust, Lei Jun announced a five-year battery warranty for the first sale of the phone. If the battery health drops below 80% within five years, Xiaomi will replace it for free. This is a game-changer for long-term durability.

On the charging front, the device supports 100W fast charging and, for the first time in the Turbo series, the 100W PPS protocol. It also supports 27W reverse charging, effectively turning your phone into a high-speed power bank for headphones or other phones.

Design and Availability

The REDMI Turbo 5 Max (and the future POCO X8 Pro Max) is ditching the cheap plastic feel. It features a CNC metal frame, a flagship-grade fiberglass backplate, and ultra-narrow bezels. It will debut in a new “Sea Breeze Blue” colorway.

Pricing in China targets the 2.5K CNY (~$345 USD) sweet spot. We expect the global POCO X8 Pro and POCO X8 Pro Max to arrive later in Q1 or early Q2 2026. If you are looking for a phone that balances “Max” performance with incredible battery assurance, this is the one to watch.
