The foldable market has been a bit of a mystery for Xiaomi fans recently. We saw the MIX Fold 5 get certified but ultimately not released, and the MIX Flip 2 was also canceled for a global launch. But according to new information we’ve uncovered, Xiaomi is back with a new foldable, and it’s making some big changes. This is incredibly exciting news for those of us who have been waiting for Xiaomi’s next step in the foldable phone space. It seems the company has been focused on a major evolution rather than just a simple update. You can check out more about Xiaomi’s foldable lineup on our website or learn about the latest camera technologies that might be coming to this new device.
Big Changes in Naming and Launch
Based on the leaked information, a new foldable device with the codename “pecan” is on its way. What’s interesting is the model number, 26023PN08C. The “PN” in the model number suggests that this device might be branded under the main Xiaomi series, rather than the “PX” which is typically used for the MIX series. This could mean the device will launch as the Xiaomi 17 Fold instead of the MIX Fold 6, a logical move since the company skipped the MIX Fold 5.
Furthermore, while previous Fold devices were released in June, this new device is expected to launch in February 2026. The model number P18S also suggests a satellite version, with the “S” indicating satellite connectivity. It’s possible Xiaomi might only release the satellite version, as there is no P18 model number found. As with many of Xiaomi’s most advanced devices, this will likely be a China-only release.
A Camera Setup Similar to the MIX Flip 3
The camera setup on the “pecan” device looks very impressive and is similar to the one we saw leaked for the MIX Flip 3. The device is expected to have a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and the following cameras:
- Main Camera: 200MP (S5KHP5)
- Ultra-Wide Camera: 50MP (OV50M)
- Secondary Front Camera: 50MP (OV50M)
- Front Camera: 16MP (OV16F)
The 200MP main camera is a huge step forward for foldable devices and shows Xiaomi’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of mobile photography. And Xiaomi removed telephoto camera.
