A new leak from the reliable Weibo tipster SmartPikachu suggests that the mobile industry is on the verge of a major shift in how Artificial Intelligence is handled on smartphones. The post highlights that “All mobile operating systems are moving towards native AI,” and surprisingly, we might see the first prototypes as early as this year.
This development could mark a significant evolution for HyperOS and future Xiaomi devices.
What is “Native AI”?
Currently, many AI features on smartphones (like advanced photo editing or generative text) rely on the Cloud. Your data is sent to a server, processed, and sent back.
Native AI means the processing happens entirely on the device, using the phone’s own NPU (Neural Processing Unit) and dedicated AI chips.
The Xiaomi 18 Connection
This leak aligns perfectly with recent reports regarding Xiaomi’s hardware ambitions.
- Dedicated AI Chip: Xiaomi has recently hinted at working on its own dedicated AI chip to boost on-device processing power.
- Xiaomi 18 Series: It is highly probable that the Xiaomi 18 series will be the first “True Native AI” phone from the brand.
Why Native AI is Better
Moving away from Cloud AI to Native AI brings two massive benefits:
-
Performance & Speed: Features like the Magic Eraser, Photo Editor, and Image Correction will work instantly without needing an internet connection or waiting for server uploads.
-
Privacy & Security: Since data (your photos, voice commands, usage patterns) never leaves your phone, the process is significantly more secure.
If SmartPikachu’s prediction holds true, we could see early prototypes of this Native AI-powered HyperOS later this year, setting the stage for a smarter, faster, and more private experience in 2027.
