On December 25th, there came spyshots straight from Weibo of a third model from the stables of Xiaomi, which really is a car to kill both their earlier offerings, SU7 and YU7. Boattail in shape, or rather squarish shape, boxy, which is pretty more family-friendlier, the car marked Xiaomi’s first attempt toward the 2026 extended range SUV segment.
Key Highlights
- Design Evolution: New SUV remains true to its fundamental philosophy by sticking to the idea of a ‘square body’ with focused practicality in usage and is family-application biased. The design is far from the sleek styles of the SU7 and YU7, representing a new direction that Xiaomi Motors is taking.
- Innovative Features and Business Model: Xiaomi is trying a consumer electronics-grade component replacement strategy by using hardware from consumer electronics for non-safety-critical parts. It ranges to the rarest of them all: the car will be delivered as a bare model; customers can customize and assemble parts based on their preference, deviating from the traditional “pre-installed” model applied by incumbent automakers.
- Competitive Market: While other brands-Ideal, Li Auto, and Leapmotor-have already seized this extended-range SUV section and driven sales up, the entrance of Xiaomi into this space will entail more competition and innovation; both will finally benefit the consumer, either in the form of better prices or with more features.
Insights from Development
People briefed on the matter say the new model, during its pre-research stage, had gone through two significant revisions in design, reflecting how anxious Xiaomi was to make sure it will meet market expectations. With this extended-range SUV, Xiaomi aims to capture a growing segment while introducing disruptive business practices that could redefine customer experience in the automotive sector.

Xiaomi is a well established and symbol of innovative and technology. I have never seen a brand that moves so fast and produce wide range of product., only Xiaomi.
But I rather see Xiaomi’s own design and signature. Please stop from copying “western ” design . I will be very proud of Xiaomi if Xiaomi don’t stop “plagiarism”. I never proud or admire western design although they can claim what ever they like but NOT my recognition or admiration. But I do respect of the late Ferdinand Piech achievement. Man with golden hand
Every brand he touched became a good standard from Audi to Porsche to VW. But I am getting tired of those who worship others identity and tradition. It will never help it own.
Yes what Geely has done is a proud achievement, An achievement that must be recognized , Geely bought and resuscitate dying European car brand . Is MG should be recognized by its Brits root while MG is owned by a Chinese corporation. If so it is a shameful stance. In my opinion MG must be known a the great Chinese or Eastern technology prowess that conquer the world. Start by proud of your own design without plagiarized other designs.
I wonder if we as Asians are embarrassed to wear our tradition custome at board meeting with the white guy ????
