Xiaomi HyperOS 3 gets new signal and battery icons

Xiaomi is making a calculated move with HyperOS 3, presenting a significant redesign that directly targets a more premium, familiar user experience. The signal and battery icons—untouched since MIUI 6 and MIUI 12, respectively—are finally modernized. The new, noticeably thicker signal bars and a matte battery icon bring a clearer, more contemporary look, very much inspired by iOS. This is not just an aesthetic update; it’s a strategic alignment with prevailing design trends that consumers have already shown a preference for.

Key Visual Adjustments

The signal and WiFi indicators have shifted from thin, understated lines to bolder, more visible bars. This isn’t just about style—it’s a practical improvement. Users can now evaluate signal strength at a glance, which is especially useful in high-light environments where visibility is key.

The battery indicator has also been overhauled, ditching the previous semi-transparent design for a solid, matte finish. It’s cleaner, and arguably, more professional. This change further positions HyperOS 3 as a sophisticated, user-focused platform.

System-Wide Interface Enhancements

Recent preview screenshots highlight a broader shift: app icons are now reminiscent of iOS 18, resulting in a more cohesive and high-end interface. The home screen has been streamlined—removing the search bar to create additional space for apps and widgets. Even the battery percentage display has been refined to echo iPhone’s, reinforcing the iOS-inspired strategy.

Premium Glass UI Elements

Glass UI-inspired elements are visible throughout HyperOS 3, adding depth and refinement. These subtle cues elevate the experience, helping Xiaomi’s software compete more directly with other flagship brands.

Expansive Device Support

Xiaomi isn’t limiting this update to just a few models. HyperOS 3 will be available on 33 Xiaomi devices, 44 Redmi devices, and 19 POCO devices. This extensive rollout demonstrates a clear commitment to ensuring their entire ecosystem benefits from the latest advancements.

Launch Timeline and Technical Details

The official announcement for HyperOS 3 is expected in October 2025. Uniquely, the update will support both Android 15 and Android 16, depending on device compatibility and release schedules.

For users who want to stay ahead, Xiaomi recommends the MemeOS Enhancer app—available on the Play Store—for direct access to new features and system app updates.

In summary, with HyperOS 3, Xiaomi signals its intent to deliver a modern, competitive, and user-centric software experience, leveraging familiar design language to appeal to both existing and new customers.

Would also be nice if the default font gets updated to the new Google sans too, so things look more consistent with the default google apps.

Currently, I rely on third part fonts to get something similar.
