Xiaomi HyperOS 2 introduces Circle to Search feature with XiaoAI Assistant

The new update of HyperOS 2 has brought an innovative feature to Xiaomi’s XiaoAI assistant: Circle to Search. Since Google services, including Google Assistant, are not available in China, Xiaomi has been working hard on its proprietary XiaoAI assistant to provide a similar and smooth experience.

This feature was announced with a promotional video that has shown what the feature can achieve: how it will further improve user interaction and make searching even more efficient.

What is Circle to Search?

Circle to Search is a new feature wherein users can activate searches by circling ‘any’ text, images, or particular content on the screen. This feature is highly integrated with XiaoAI for context-aware suggestions, making the feature truly productive and convenient.

  1. Visual Search: Users can circle objects, images, or text on the screen to find related information. The assistant analyzes the selected area and provides detailed results, such as product links, definitions, or context-specific data.
  2. Text Highlight Search: Users can highlight and circle a portion of text, and XiaoAI instantly pulls relevant search results or translations.
  3. Multilingual Support: Supports Chinese as the primary language, with additional language packs for broader functionality.
  4. Real-time assistance: It is ideal for shopping, research, and content discovery, having real-time AI insights into selected items or terms.

Circle to Search vs. Google Lens

While Circle to Search is largely conceptually very similar to Google Lens, it’s fitted for Xiaomi’s specific Chinese users. Where Google services may not be available due to one constraint or another, Circle to Search provides: Localized results tailored for the Chinese market. – Seamless integrations with the Xiaomi HyperOS ecosystem and XiaoAI assistant. Improved privacy controls that keep user data within the Xiaomi ecosystem.

Adding Circle to Search in HyperOS 2 is the statement of intent by Xiaomi to provide a strong and independent ecosystem for its users. In the same breath, Xiaomi integrates advanced AI technologies into the system to let its user base in China-be it for productivity or convenience-have access to the most useful tools since Google services are not available there. This feature is foreseen to give one more uplift in the reputation of the innovative operating system, HyperOS 2, according to the very specific demands by Xiaomi users.

I’ve been using it on my poco X4 pro 5 G with a calculator for a few months now and it works without a problem, the problem is with Xiaomi, they write nonsense about some limitations.
