Xiaomi has made a serious change to the theme store feature

Xiaomi has undergone a major overhaul of its theme ecosystem that aims at China ROM users, as revealed by the official Xiaomi Theme channel’s post in the Xiaomi Community platform. Based on the April 17 post, the international theme store would no longer be supported by China ROM versions, and many users find themselves encountering “network unavailable” as they try to access the international theme store. The strategic move shifts China ROM users to the specialized Chinese theme marketplace so that users can find themes compatible with their device builds.

Why This Change Matters

The division of China and international theme stores signifies Xiaomi’s ongoing commitment to region-specific optimization of the user experience. The change takes effect in all Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO smartphones using China ROM versions, be they using either the MIUI or the more recent HyperOS.

Users trying to access the international theme store using China ROMs now routinely find that they get network connection errors. These are no technical glitches, but a deliberate system restriction added by Xiaomi. The company advises users to switch to the China theme store to escape the connectivity problems.

How to find your ROM Version

To identify if your phone has a China or international ROM, you can do the following easy steps:

  1. Open Settings on your Xiaomi device
  2. Go to About Phone
  3. Find the MIUI or HyperOS version details
  4. China ROMs ends with “CNXM” in the version number

Solutions for Fans of the Theme

If you’re encountering the “network unavailable” message attempting to access the international theme store, Xiaomi offers the following solutions:

  • Download and utilize the China theme shop application
  • Discover the vast range of themes found in the home store
  • Consider changing to a global ROM in case international themes are a priority for use

The in-house theme shop provides thousands of high-quality themes, several of which are crafted keeping in mind Chinese market tastes but can be used to add a distinctive visual touch as well as customize any user’s experience.

Future of Xiaomi Themes

This separation of theme ecosystems highlights Xiaomi’s commitment to providing tailored experiences for different markets. While some users may initially find this change limiting, it allows Xiaomi to better optimize theme offerings for specific regional preferences and requirements.

The company continues to develop themes for both China and global markets, making all users enjoy quality customizations irrespective of the ROM of their devices.

I am an Indian. I am an urdent lover of Xiaomi mobile phones. I recently purchased a Xiaomi 15 mobile phone which is just awesome. It is very powerful and at the same time compact also. It is very pocket friendly i.e. only 152.3 mm. Camera compartment at the backside is of square shape and located at the top left. That is why I love Xiaomi 15. But Xiaomi 15 ultra has camera compartment at the backside which is of round shape and located at the top middle which I don’t like. I request Xiaomi to design camera compartment at the backside to be square shape always and to be positioned at top left side not at top middle.
I love Chinese people very much because Chinese are extremely talented in engineering whether it is mobile phone or space engineering etc. etc. I am also an electrical engineer and I also love engineering.
Ultimate conclusion is that I love engineering and Chinese are great engineers. So I love Chinese.
