Xiaomi fixes HyperOS theme crash that broke wallpapers and personalization

Xiaomi has now confirmed and fixed a critical HyperOS personalization system crash that caused the Settings application to shut down instantly when users accessed the “System Personalization” menu. Theme and wallpaper services were affected on numerous devices. According to internal bug tracking, the problem was registered under a new proposal and resolved following community feedback.

What Caused the Xiaomi HyperOS Theme Crash?

This bug was internally filed under Proposal Number: 52530989 and tracked via Jira ID: BUGOS2-755504. This bug caused immediate crashing of the Settings application whenever users with this issue tapped on Settings > System Personalization. Reinstalling system components did not fix the problem, with the necessary System Personalization service unable to be re-downloaded from the system app store.

The same issue also prevented users from accessing some crucial services, including downloading themes, changing wallpapers, or even activating certain System & Personalization plugins. Xiaomi describes this as a system-level conflict with dynamic resource loading inside HyperOS, which manages the work of live wallpapers, lock screen effects, and UI skin components.

Official Xiaomi Fix and System Optimization

Xiaomi has confirmed that the crash has now been resolved through a server-side configuration update and system resource patch, fixing how HyperOS validates personalization modules before loading visual assets. The change prevents corrupted profiles from causing a Settings crash and restores full access to the Themes and Wallpapers service.

No user data was affected, and the repair does not require a factory reset. All improvements are delivered through Xiaomi’s system framework in the background. Users can also keep their system apps updated through XiaomiTime.com’s project HyperOSUpdates.com or by installing the MemeOS Enhancer app from the Play Store, which provides access to hidden Xiaomi features, system app updates, and on-screen update shortcuts.

How This Improves HyperOS Stability

Following the fix, UI customization is now done in a much safer and efficient way by HyperOS. Theme engines load up with much safer memory handling, and wallpaper services do not fail silently anymore. This makes for greater system stability and reduces the chances of future system crashes during lock screen, home screen, or dynamic wallpaper customizations.

Xiaomi has confirmed that this fix is now active across supported HyperOS devices, without affecting performance or battery usage.
