Today, REDMI Mobile Phone finally responded to the questions of netizens about whether the old phones could be installed with the new Xiaomi Jinshajiang batteries, which boast extraordinary capacity and long life. Unfortunately, it is impossible to install them because of huge technical obstacles.
Technical Challenges Highlighted
According to Xiaomi, Jinshajiang batteries require an extremely high-integrated management system. Such batteries-let’s look at the 6550mAh unit present in the Redmi Turbo 4-also have to be backward-compatible; that is to say, in case of replacements, their replacements need to come from different models and/or series as well. This will bring problems not only to simple battery replacement but also to charging/discharging adaptations for these systems. For the older models, particularly those from the last three years or so, it has proved tricky to retrofit with the Jinshajiang battery as:
- System Compatibility: The charge and discharge management system should be fully optimized toward the new type of battery.
- Safety and Stability: In the absence of compatibility at every level, neither operational safety nor the longevity of batteries is easily achieved.
- Constraints of Device Design: The architecture to support the higher capacity and performance of Jinshajiang batteries is lacking in older devices.
Official Statement on Battery Upgrade
Redmi acknowledged that there was a need for better battery life and that the Jinshajiang technology was a leap in performance, but this would make a single battery upgrade unsafe and unstable, so it was not possible to do.
“We have conducted several rounds of assessments and discussions, but we concluded that the technical difficulty is too great. Although we tried, we could not make it compatible without compromising safety and performance.”
The Future of Xiaomi Batteries
The Xiaomi Jinshajiang battery technology has been a turning point in mobile battery performance, pushing capacities over 6000mAh. The company has confirmed that this breakthrough will continue to be used in future models for better battery life, such as the Redmi Turbo 4. Although this may be some sad news for current users of the phone who were looking forward to upgrading, it is quite certain that Xiaomi isn’t slowing down in further advancing its battery technologies to satisfy user demands for long-lasting devices.
