In a dramatic twist for budget-conscious smartphone buyers, Redmi under Xiaomi is poised to release a phone that truly lives up to the “affordable for all” catchcry. Following a social media exchange that was sparked by Redmi Product Director Wang Teng on what consumers consider to be truly affordable prices, Xiaomi has made it official that it is releasing a new smartphone later this month that is poised to live up to those expectations.
This is consistent with Xiaomi’s ongoing commitment to value-led innovation and is a follow-up to the company’s heritage of offering feature-packed devices with competitive prices that made Xiaomi a global smartphone giant since it was founded.
What makes a phone “Affordable for Everyone”?
The controversy was triggered by Huawei releasing its Pura X foldable phone on March 21 for 7,499 yuan (around $1,035), which was regarded by many as contrary to assurances that it would be “affordable for all.” Wang Teng took to social media to ask for people to share what they consider to be “affordable for all.”
Netizens are mostly of the opinion that a truly affordable smartphone would fall somewhere between 1,999 to 2,999 yuan ($276 to $414) and is quite a distance away from flagship prices.
REDMI Turbo 4 Pro: The Budget Powerhouse
Following this speech, Wang Teng made a statement: “Next month I will show you a good product that is reasonably priced for ordinary users. Not only is it good-looking, it is powerful too! Students who are considering replacing mobile phones can hold on for a while.” The new smartphone has been dubbed by industry experts as the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro and has already been certified by 3C. It is going to be available in April. This latest smartphone is intended to offer best-in-class features at a price that is affordable to consumers.
This phone will be released as POCO F7 Pro in global market.
REDMI Turbo 4 Pro has Snapdragon 8s Elite (SM8735) processor 1.5K LTPS dimming high frequency eye Thin bezel design with big corner radius “Highest battery capacity among recent smartphones in this category”.
Positioned between the Redmi Turbo 4 (starting price of 1,656 yuan/$229 after subsidies) and K80 (starting price of 2,124 yuan/$293), the Turbo 4 Pro will be priced around 1,800 yuan ($249) after national subsidies.
