Xiaomi Donates $755K for North China Flood Relief Efforts

In response to the devastating floods that recently hit North China, Xiaomi has made a major move, allocating $700,000 in direct funding alongside $49,000 worth of emergency supplies. CEO Lei Jun publicly announced the initiative, signaling Xiaomi’s determination to take its social responsibilities seriously—well beyond the company’s usual focus on innovation and devices.

Strategic Distribution of Relief Funds

Xiaomi didn’t just toss money at the problem. The $700,000 in cash was deliberately split among several established organizations: Amity Foundation, Beijing Pinglan Charity Foundation, and Hebei Charity United Foundation. This approach ensures the support goes directly to the impacted regions, covering both immediate needs and longer-term rebuilding efforts. These partners are tasked with everything from emergency resettlement to full-scale reconstruction, making sure the funds create tangible results on the ground.

Targeted Emergency Supplies

Beyond financial contributions, Xiaomi shipped out $49,000 in essential supplies—power banks, walkie-talkies, and flashlights. These aren’t random items; they’re critical in disaster zones where communications and electricity are often knocked out. Xiaomi leveraged its expertise to provide practical, technology-driven solutions, using its own products to fill real gaps for affected communities.

Sustained Commitment

Unlike some one-off charity stunts, Xiaomi’s involvement isn’t ending here. The company’s charity foundation has committed to ongoing support through the Ministry of Emergency Management’s collaborative supply mechanism. Additionally, Xiaomi’s “Building a Safe Home of Love” project, launched with the Amity Foundation, is opening the door for public participation in fundraising to keep the recovery momentum going.

Leadership and Community Engagement

Lei Jun extended his thanks to all stakeholders—government agencies, nonprofits, Mi fans, and broader society—for contributing to the relief efforts. The company reiterated its dedication to supporting communities during crises, reinforcing Xiaomi’s image as a partner invested in the well-being of its users and society at large.
