On October 15th during a livestream event, Xiaomi President Lu Weibing has finally revealed the fact that the REDMI K90 Pro Max will be launched later this month in China. The phone is Xiaomi’s second “Pro Max” for this year after the recent move by the company towards ultrahigh-performance flagship smartphones. The phone will be launched around 4,000 yuan (approximately $550 USD).
The REDMI K series has long been popular when it comes to users that are performance-driven in China. Series models such as the REDMI K70 Pro are recognized internationally under the POCO F7 brand, so this launch event holds double the significance for overseas markets. Users abroad may see the model later release as the POCO F7 Ultra.
Destined characteristics and placement
The REDMI K90 Pro Max is also expected to maintain Xiaomi’s tradition of marrying the latest chipsets with flaghip-level display and camera subsystem. Although Lu Weibing didn’t unveil complete specifications while going live, sources indicate the phone may feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and upgraded AI imaging technology, just like the Xiaomi 15 series.
On top of that, it will also boast a 2K AMOLED screen, rapid charging of 120W and above, and Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2 for a silky-smooth and efficient experience. All these specs make the REDMI K90 Pro Max one of the most powerful phones in its segment and giving a near-flagship experience but a lower-tag.
A maturing “Pro Max” campaign
The REDMI K90 Pro Max release is Xiaomi’s further foray into the Pro Max category — the phones that are the extensions of typical “Pro” variants with prolonged performance, larger battery capacities, and camera advancements. Back this year, Xiaomi released a Pro Max phone but through a non-series release, which corresponds to a new brand direction that focuses on connecting ultra-flagships and high-end midrange segment phones.
With Xiaomi’s accelerative rate of innovation, it is possible that the REDMI K90 Pro Max will double as a reference point for subsequent POCO and Xiaomi T models worldwide.
