Xiaomi accidentally releases first HyperOS 3 app update

It seems like Xiaomi fans have something to anticipate because the company seems to have accidentally showcased the first clue of its forthcoming HyperOS 3 via an early application release. Xiaomi HyperConnect Interconnectivity Services (package: com.xiaomi.mirror), which got updated to version 17.00.01, clearly points to development work on HyperOS 3. This early release not only offers insight into Xiaomi’s development roadmap for their forthcoming operating system, but it also follows the company’s standard version numbering scheme.

Understanding Xiaomi’s Version Numbering System

Xiaomi’s versioning trend for their software has been decidedly consistent, enabling us to make some educated guesses at future releases:

MIUI 15 was renamed HyperOS 1, with apps versioned as V15

  • HyperOS 2 (MIUI 16, if it had been so named) comes with apps versioned V16
  • Leaked V17 application clearly indicates HyperOS 3 development is underway

It retains the same UI design from before, with only the version number updated to 17.00.01 – meaning changes to visuals are not in place just yet, but it does mean that development of underlying HyperOS 3 is underway.

Anticipated Release Schedule

Following Xiaomi’s customary release calendar, HyperOS 3 is anticipated to roll out in October 2025. This date falls in line with Xiaomi’s yearly software roll-out pattern, which also follows their annual series of flagship phone launches.

The most interesting part of the impending release is that HyperOS 3 will apparently be available in two forms:

  • Android 15-based version for latest devices
  • Android 16-based version for top models

This dual-launch approach reflects both Xiaomi’s dedication to supporting all of its new premium handsets and maintaining compatibility with the previous device ecosystem.

Though this accidental release does not show any UI changes or fresh features, it does assure us that Xiaomi is indeed developing their next major system update and following their normal development cycle.
