The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is due to launch on December 25, but in these pre-event days, Xiaomi has been letting out a clear real look at the device. Of course, nothing speaks louder than a live showing of the device, and Partner and President, Xiaomi Group, and General Manager of the Xiaomi brand Lu Weibing, himself did just that – confirming several design points of interest: Among the key points revealed in the official showcase was that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra focuses on a slimmer body and refreshed colors with a new face.
Xiaomi 17 Ultra Becomes the Slimmest Ultra Model So Far
Measuring 8.29 mm thick, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is now the thinnest Ultra smartphone the company has ever made. That’s an 11.3% reduction in thickness** compared to its direct predecessor. The reduced profile is said to improve daily handling while keeping premium positioning as carried by the Ultra series. Xiaomi continues to focus on striking a balance between svelte design and durability, a theme that has often recurred across recent flagship generations.
The slimmer body is associated with improvements in grip and visual consistency, courtesy of the wraparound mid-frame structure. Xiaomi refined button placement, introducing segmental volume keys for more precise tactile feedback during use.
Unveiling Four Options for an Official Colour
Xiaomi confirmed the 17 Ultra is coming in four color variants, combining classic and new finishes. Black and white remain part of the lineup, while two new colors add visual distinction.
The newly introduced Starry Green finish integrates mineral-like particles to show subtle reflections under light. Another new option, Cool Smoke Purple, has a softer gradient tone targeted at users who want a more modern look and feel. These color options demonstrate an alignment with Xiaomi’s recent emphasis on material texture and the interaction with light rather than glossy finishes.
The most noticeable of them would probably be the front panel. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is going to be the first Ultra model with a flat display-instead of a curved screen. A huge, rounded 2D flat panel has been used, which is going to improve touch accuracy and reduce unwanted inputs.
On the back, Xiaomi introduced a miniaturized camera DECO designed not to interfere with hand placement when holding the phone. Beside the camera module is a custom Ultra nameplate, which evokes the model’s flagship identity while keeping branding subtle and clean.
Launch Timeline and Expectations
Xiaomi has now confirmed that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will launch officially on December 25, with more hardware specifications likely to be shared on the launch day. This design-focused reveal does hint that ergonomics and visual refinement are strong focuses from Xiaomi in this generation.
