The Return of the 1-Inch Sensor and a Quad 50MP Array

Based on the latest leaks, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will feature a jaw-dropping camera array, with a total of five cameras—four on the rear and one on the front. What’s truly remarkable is the rumored 50MP resolution for every single lens. This includes the main, ultra-wide, telephoto, and a second telephoto lens on the back, as well as the selfie camera. For a company that previously often used 32MP front cameras, this is a significant leap forward, showing a clear commitment to elevating the front-facing photography experience.

The star of the show appears to be the main camera’s sensor: the “OVX10500U.” This is a brand-new sensor that we are seeing for the first time. It is believed to be an OmniVision sensor with a 50MP resolution. We also speculate that this sensor could be the previously rumored OV50X. This new sensor is also expected to be a massive 1-inch sensor, a format we haven’t seen since the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. After the Xiaomi 15 Ultra used a slightly smaller sensor, it’s thrilling to see Xiaomi potentially returning to the larger 1-inch size.

Additionally, the device is said to feature a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, ensuring smooth, powerful performance across all tasks, including demanding photography and videography. The camera sensors for the device are also listed as:

  • OVX10500U Wide: Main Camera – 50MP
  • JN5 Ultra Wide: Ultra-Wide Camera – 50MP
  • JN5 Telephoto: Telephoto Camera – 50MP
  • HPE Telephoto: Periscope Telephoto Camera – 200MP
  • OV50M Front: Front-Facing Camera – 50MP

Satellite Connectivity Goes Global

In a truly groundbreaking move for the global market, it appears a version of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will come equipped with satellite connectivity. The model numbers 25128PNA1G and 25128PNA1C point to these satellite-enabled variants. This is a huge development, as Xiaomi has previously kept its satellite-capable devices exclusive to the Chinese market. It signals a new era for global Xiaomi flagships, bringing cutting-edge technology to users everywhere. The standard model numbers are also leaked as 2512BPNDAG, 2512BPNDAI, and 2512BPNDAC, with India set to receive the non-satellite version.

One interesting note is that, unlike the Xiaomi 17 Pro series, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is not expected to include a secondary rear display. This choice likely helps to streamline the design while keeping the focus squarely on the incredible camera and connectivity hardware.
