Xiaomi 17 Pro will receive 4K 60FPS LOFIC video update

A major upcoming software update for the Xiaomi 17 Pro line is being readied by Xiaomi, and this time around, the focus is on the art of cinematography on mobile. Xiaomi’s camera product manager, Bao Xiao Li, has confirmed the Xiaomi lineup mentioned above will receive the ability to shoot 4K at 60FPS by incorporating LOFIC technology. This upgrade is expected to increase the dynamic range available in the footage shot by the cameras and will provide a professional-like experience for smartphone users. LOFIC Imaging Technology Explained

“LOFIC” is an abbreviation that stands for “Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitors.” It is the next-generation HDR imaging technology that aims to enhance the process of light capture within CMOS sensors. The new technology is capable of processing high light contrast with the help of linear and logarithmic storage approaches in a single pixel. This technology will allow the camera to maintain detail in both brightly lit and dark areas of an image. This will give a much more natural image when recording videos. When recording videos, it gives an even more natural look that simulates the human eye. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra will support Dolby mode.

Although the additional functionalities open exciting avenues for the latest flagship offerings, these will not be possible for the predecessors. The product manager recently confirmed that the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 15 lines of devices cannot accommodate these upgrades. This is because the LOFIC system’s hardware requirements include physical hardware. The LOFIC capability is directly connected to the particular architectural design of the new sensors available in the newer models of the 17 Pro-line of Xiaomi phones. As mentioned, since there were no physical capacitors on the sensors of older models, there is no possibility of implementing 4K 60FPS LOFIC capability by merely updating software.
