Xiaomi 15S Pro and Google Pixel 10 Will Integrate Latest GPU Tech

In exciting news for mobile gaming and graphics processing, both the new Xiaomi 15S Pro and Google’s Pixel 10 are reported to feature the same high-end graphics processing unit tech from Imagination Technologies. That news comes alongside confirmation that Xiaomi will use its self-developed XRING processor in the 15S Pro for the first time since the Mi 5C that the company has included custom silicon in a smartphone. That the two top models have the same GPU architecture shows the big trend in the mobile processor market away from the Mali GPUs towards the superior graphics capabilities of Imagination.

Xiaomi’s Return to Custom Silicon

This decision to bring the XRING processor into the Xiaomi 15S Pro represents a turning point in the company’s hardware strategy. When Xiaomi debuted the first Surge S1 chip in the Mi 5C in 2017, the move was indicative of serious semiconductor ambitions. Now that the company has had several years’ experience using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors for the top-of-the-line phones, Xiaomi appears poised to go back into custom chip-making with more advanced tech.

According to news from the RISC-V Day Tokyo conference, the new Xiaomi chip will have Imagination Technologies’ graphics processing unit architecture, potentially the same DXT-48-1536 GPU that Google plans to use in the Tensor G5 chip for the Pixel 10.

The Imagination DXT-48-1536 Advantage

Imagination Technologies’ DXT-48-1536 GPU represents a significant improvement on the typical mobile GPUs by providing:

  • Support for increased ray tracing capabilities Enhanced graphics rendering for mobile gaming Improved power efficiency compared to the options in Mali Improved performance for computational photography and AI

Google’s Parallel Path

Google’s Tensor G5 chip in the Pixel 10 also makes the same transition away from the Arm Mali-G715 found in previous Tensor processors. It also sees the company switch away from Samsung and towards TSMC for production, potentially bringing better performance and efficiency.

Market Implications There are

This concurrent development by two top smartphone manufacturers suggests the likely industry-wide shift away from Mali GPUs. These two companies’ embrace of Imagination’s technology may lead to:

  • New mobile gaming performance benchmarks
  • Enhanced capabilities within both ecosystems
  • Increased competition in the mobile GPU marketplace
  • ARM’s potential challenges for leading the Mali GPU
