Xiaomi’s new flagship, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, is generating a buzz with its launch in China in a matter of weeks. Confirmed in a statement by Xiaomi President, Lu Weibing, the smartphone will follow its predecessor, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, in its worldwide launch, possibly at MWC 2025 in Barcelona (3–6th March). With a new BIS certification confirming an India launch, and a leak through 91mobiles offering specs and looks information, here’s all that’s been uncovered till date.
Colors and Storages: Colorful Solutions for Universal Users
The global model of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra will launch in three high-class colors: traditional Black, simple White, and a new Silver one. That’s an improvement over the Xiaomi 14 Ultra’s Black and White options with a vegan leather backing, and an indication of a new look. In terms of storage, the device will have at least a 16GB RAM and 512GB storage model, similar to its predecessor’s high-end model.
Design Revisions: Smoother Lens Module and Textured Finish
Latest hands-on photos verify minor but important design refinements. The rounded camera module retains its striking shape but features reorganized locations for sensors and Leica stamping. There is a striking red accent that runs about the module, adding a high-end touch. There is a textured backing, most likely for added grip and durability.
Under the Hood: Performance and Power Additions
- Chipset: There have been speculations that the 15 Ultra will launch with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC in succession of the 8 Gen 3 in the 14 Ultra.
- Battery & Charging: There will be a 6,000mAh battery (a boost over 5,300mAh), with 90W wired charging and 50W wireless charging capabilities, outpacing 80W wireless capabilities in 14 Ultra.
Camera: Imaging Flagship with Cutting-Edge Hardware
Xiaomi and Leica have continued working together, with 15 Ultra soon to become the only flagship with a 1-inch principal camera and a record-breaker 200MP periscope telephoto lens. With little information about auxiliary sensors, such a configuration is full of potential for high-zoom and low-light capabilities.
Connectivity: Launch of satellite connectivity and eSIM
The phone will have satellite connectivity for use in case of an emergency, a first for a Xiaomi device. It’s also seen to become the first flagship with eSIM integration, in a move towards embracing digital SIMs worldwide.
Launch Timeline: China, Globally, and India Opportunity
- China: Februrary 2024
- Global: To most likely launch at MWC 2025 in March
The 15 Ultra aims at securing a high-end smartphone position for Xiaomi with best-in-class technology, camera innovation, and global demand. Official intel will have to wait, but rumor and leak have a vision in mind for a behemoth device with a chance to knock out competition in terms of Samsung and Apple.
