The Chinese model will be pre-installed with HyperOS 2.1, while the global model will be pre-installed with HyperOS 2. The implication is that global users will have to wait until the HyperOS 2.1 update, which is in development at present and is not available globally.
Global users are stuck on HyperOS 2 in the meantime
Xiaomi’s new HyperOS 2.1 comes with a plethora of new features in its wake, from enhanced AI-based camera features, a more seamless multitasking experience, as well as enhanced tweaks in terms of performance. But the global 15 Ultra will not initially be available with these features, as international models’ HyperOS 2.1 isn’t ready just yet. There is no release timeline from Xiaomi as to when that will be, which means early adopters in non-China regions will have to keep waiting.
No Testing on HyperOS 2.2 on Xiaomi 15 Ultra as yet
Aside from the delayed release of HyperOS 2.1, sources also imply that HyperOS 2.2 is not yet in testing on the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. While more tweaks and optimizations are expected in HyperOS 2.2, no release timeline announcements are available on any device from Xiaomi, least of which is on the Xiaomi 15 Ultra.
What it means for buyers of Xiaomi 15 Ultra
For those buying the Xiaomi 15 Ultra globally, that will be getting HyperOS 2.0’s feature set, which lacks the new software features that are in HyperOS 2.1. The update will be out at some stage, although users will have to wait maybe weeks, maybe months.
Meanwhile in China, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra will feature the new HyperOS 2.1 from launch, making local users enjoy its new features from day one.
The Xiaomi 15 Ultra remains one of the more powerful devices in Xiaomi’s lineup, although global users will be frustrated with software lag. The release date on which HyperOS 2.1 will be globally available is not announced by Xiaomi, nor have they started developing HyperOS 2.2 on the device. Global users will just have to be patient as Xiaomi keeps its software in check.
