Details of the camera that will be fitted on the new Xiaomi 15 Ultra have made the tech rumor mill go into a frenzy. According to a blog on Smartprix dated September 3, the new Xiaomi 15 Ultra promises to give all smartphones a run for their money in photography with its array of cutting-edge features:.
Upgraded Primary Camera
The coming together of Xiaomi and Sony marked a milestone in the industry of mobile photography. Their collaboration issued some great sensors, one of which is the Sony IMX989, a 1-inch type that has set new benchmarks among leading smartphone brands. However, this is being taken to a whole new level with the Xiaomi 15 Ultra since it will boast a new main camera sensor.
The Xiaomi 14 Ultra was already a powerhouse, grasping the LYTIA LYT-900 second-generation 1-inch main camera sensor, which outperformed the IMX989 in performance. The LYT-900 is known to possess impressive energy efficiency, reducing power consumption by 43%, and its ultra-dynamic range of 14EV, which is 9.5 times higher than the IMX989, resulting in a capture of minute details in light and shade.
For the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, it is said that Xiaomi and Sony will develop an upgraded sensor in order to achieve much better low-light performance than before. It is believed that the sensor will add more capabilities to the LYT-900 and enable the camera to click even better images in adverse conditions.
4K Cinematic and Slow Motion Modes
Another nice addition on the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is a new dedicated 4K cinematic video mode. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra, too, had a movie mode, but it was limited to 1080p recording. The new 4K cinematic mode of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra promises full-screen immersive and professional video recording.
Apart from the 4K cinematic mode, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra will boast of another major imaging upgrade in the form of new capabilities provided by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip made by Qualcomm, with an upgraded ISP. This will greatly enhance slow-motion features on the device-in other words, videos playing in slow motion will be smoother and more detailed.
New 200MP Telephoto Camera with 10x Zoom
Interestingly, zoom capabilities are getting a huge uptick with the Xiaomi 15 Ultra: while the Xiaomi 14 Ultra had zoom options from 0.5x through to 5x, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra introduces a sixth zoom level: 10x. Contributing to that will be the new main camera in the form of a 200-megapixel telephoto camera that supports 10x Space Zoom.
Improved Selfie Camera
Also, selfie lovers will have their reasons to be happy. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra is expected to boast a higher selfies camera of 50mp from the 32mp shooter on the Xiaomi 14 Ultra; thus, yielding sharper and more vibrant self-portraits. Hence, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra shall be a very good choice for selfie lovers.
Other Features and Release Date
Beyond an impressively capable camera, the other premium features touted for the Xiaomi 15 Ultra include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip, 2K quad-curved display, more capacious battery, among others, inside a premium case available with either a ceramic or plain leather back. Speaking of the launch timeline, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is rumored to arrive in Q1 2025. The model number will be 25010PN30C, 25010PN30I and 25010PN30G, suggesting a release in the month of January, and the codename is alleged to be “Xuanyuan.” More information will be released as the official launch gets closer. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra is going to take mobile photography to another dimension and break records in all ways possible for user experiences.
