Xiaomi 15 Pro camera specs leaked: Triple 50MP setup

The Xiaomi 15 Pro, Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship, has already begun to roar in the phone market with its advanced camera specifications. An In-Depth Look at the Camera System

The Xiaomi 15 Pro will have a solid triple rear camera setup, all at 50-megapixel capacities. Here’s what we know:

  • Main Camera: The primary shooter will be based on the 50MP Howell OV50K sensor announced this March. It comes with TheiaCel technology, promising a “near-human-eye” dynamic range and respectable low-light shooting capabilities—this 1/1.3-inch optical format sports 1.2 micron pixel size, engineered to capture fine details for higher clarity.
  • Telephoto Lens: The telephoto from older generations has the 50MP IMX882 sensor, which significantly enhances the resolution. The IMX882 can increase the resolution using digital cropping with efficient power usage. This one, overall, is much improved over the OV64B, with 3.2X optical zoom compared to the earlier 2.9X. How big its aperture size will be will be a critical factor for its overall imaging performance.
  • Ultra-Wide Angle Lens: Third in this group of three is another 50MP sensor, though it is unclear which sensor model is being implemented here. It is meant to complement the primary and telephoto lenses, thus offering flexibility when shooting wide-angle photographs.

Technological and Feature Innovations

The OV50K sensor is at the heart of the Xiaomi 15 Pro’s imaging capabilities and features the following advanced technologies:

  • 4-in-1 Pixel Binning: Pixel binning technology combines 4 pixels into 1 to deliver a 12.5MP high-quality image with improved low light performance. At the same time, it reduces noise, it also helps the sensor to support very high frame rates of up to 120 fps and 60 fps for smooth recording and playback in HDR mode.
  • Quad Phase Detection (QPD) AF: QPD functionality allows 2×2 PDAF with 100% coverage across the image sensor. This allows ultra-fast focus speed and precision.
  • On-chip Pixel Reduction: This cuts down OV50K to full 50MP Bayer-out, supporting 8K video recording and allowing for a 2x crop to reach zoom levels without losing any details.

Design and Additional Features

The Xiaomi 15 Pro camera module will be designed in a unique round-square aesthetic that will house the triple camera setup. When compared to the earlier JN1 sensor, this new configuration should grasp better image quality and versatility. Early prototypes have also disclosed that the phone will boast a 2K full-depth micro curved screen that will add up both the visual experience and user interaction.

What’s Next?

Even though these have not been confirmed per se by Xiaomi, the rumors draw a picture of the device ready for the highest level of smartphone photography competition. This would push to a more significant extent the possibilities realized in mobile imaging with Xiaomi 15 Pro, which can bring users a tool to be great at both scenarios: everyday photography and professional photography. The excitement about this just will not die as we wait for some official announcements about what could be among the most advanced camera systems in a smartphone coming this year. Stay tuned for more updates as Xiaomi approaches the launch of the 15 Pro.
