These Xiaomi phones will no longer be sold in the EU

The winds of change are surely sweeping through the technology world, as Apple begins to phase out its iPhone SE (3rd Generation)iPhone 14, and iPhone 14 Plus in Switzerland and across the European Union, in tandem with landmark EU regulations that require USB-C connectors for all new smartphones equipped with a wired charger. Such a step sends ripples across the industry, as the pressure on brands intensifies to move in line with changing standards.

Apple has long used its proprietary Lightning port as a defining feature of its ecosystem. But there’s no exemption in the new EU rule, so Apple was forced to take action. Stocks of these devices will be available through authorized resellers, but this is a historic turning point for these models.

Speculations are that Apple is preparing to launch a USB-C-equipped iPhone SE, signaling compliance and readiness for a future shaped by USB-C dominance.

Xiaomi Status

Meanwhile, Xiaomi Leads the Pack on USB-C Standardization While Apple is still playing catch-up, it’s athat has truly been leading from the front with USB-C as the norm on most of its products. The foresightedness brought forth by these global regulatory trends means that in Xiaomi, all users enjoy universal compatibility, increased speeds in both charging and data transfers.

But even the very best of brands must bend completely to new mandates. In line with this EU regulation, Xiaomi likewise announced that it would not continue to make some entry-level models without USB-C in the region. These are:

  • Redmi 12C
  • Redmi A2 Series
