Xiaomi is taking ecosystem security to the next level with the introduction of a completely revamped, standalone Password application for Xiaomi HyperOS 3. Officially announced via Xiaomi’s social channels, this massive system update transforms how users manage credentials across their devices. First rolling out to flagship devices including the Xiaomi 17, the REDMI K90 series, and the Xiaomi Pad 8, the update brings desktop-class password management directly into the core system architecture.
Currently, this HyperOS 3 feature drop is strictly exclusive to the China ROM. However, for our international readers, it is worth noting that while the REDMI K90 series is a China-exclusive lineup, standard models will eventually launch globally under the POCO brand, and the top-tier Redmi K90 Ultra will make its global debut as the highly anticipated Xiaomi 17T Pro.
Core Features: Security Meets Seamless Integration
Previously, password management was buried deep within the system settings. With HyperOS 3, Xiaomi has elevated this to a dedicated “Passwords” app located directly in the System Tools folder, bringing several major technical and quality-of-life improvements:
-
Zero-Friction Auto-Capture: Upon logging into a new website or application for the first time, the system automatically captures and securely stores the credentials. Future logins are handled via a one-click auto-fill prompt.
-
End-to-End Encrypted Synchronization: Ecosystem cohesion is a priority. Passwords are encrypted locally on the device before being synced to the cloud. This means users can save a password on their Xiaomi 17 and seamlessly access it on their Xiaomi Pad 8, ensuring zero data interception. (Note: This feature can be toggled manually via Passwords > Settings > Password Cloud Sync).
-
Advanced Risk Warnings: The app actively audits your vault. It scans and provides early warnings if a password is “Easy to Guess” (weak strength), “Reused” across multiple services, or “May be Leaked” (cross-referenced with known public data breaches).
-
Proactive Update Reminders: If a user changes a password within an app or browser, the HyperOS 3 system actively detects the modification and prompts the user to update the stored vault credentials, preventing outdated logins from causing future friction.
-
Manual Entry & Post-Recording: For accounts already logged in prior to the update, users can easily tap the “+” icon to manually record their credentials into the encrypted vault.
Affected Devices & Software
This new Password ecosystem is currently rolling out to the following devices on the latest Chinese branch of the software:
-
Xiaomi 17 Series
-
REDMI K90 Series
-
Xiaomi Pad 8
System Improvements and Market Impact
By transitioning from a basic settings menu to a fully-fledged, end-to-end encrypted Password application, Xiaomi is drastically reducing user reliance on third-party password managers like Bitwarden or 1Password. This natively integrated approach minimizes battery drain and background memory usage while maximizing privacy.
While this advanced security suite is currently locked to the Chinese market, its eventual inclusion in the Global and EEA ROMs will be a massive selling point for international users who are deeply invested in the Xiaomi hardware ecosystem.
