Emir BardakçıRecently, Front Page Tech published images of future iPhone 17 Air from Apple, showing its super-skinny 5.5mm and horizontal camera bar. This has sparked speculation on when and if Xiaomi will also embrace this style with its very own ultra-skinny flagships.
Would The Xiaomi’s Thin Flagship be different?
Unlike Apple, Xiaomi will not be pursuing a single-camera approach for its thin flagships. Xiaomi has, historically, been keen on providing flexible camera configurations, even on its thinnest phones. If Xiaomi were to launch an Air-like smartphone, then there will be at least a dual camera on such a smartphone, and possibly a 2x telephoto or 0.5x ultra-wide instead of a periscope zoom, and this will be accomplished without compromising thin and lightweight design.
Additionally, Xiaomi can also attempt camera design with a flush, similar to on some of its previous devices, and eliminate the camera bump on the back. This will be in accordance with the super-sleek looks and achieve a smooth, luxury feel.
Could Xiaomi use the MIX Series for An Extremely Sleek Device?
If Xiaomi did launch an ultra-sleek flagship, then naming it under the MIX series, with its legacy of state-of-the-art looks and revolutionary innovations, would be second-nature. If this happened, the camera could be concealed under the screen, and notches and punch-holes could be ditched for a real full-screen experience—a feat not achieved even by Apple. Xiaomi has been a leader in terms of full-screen technology from way back with the very first MIX series. If Xiaomi had aggressively pursued this trend in earlier years, then it could have overtaken Apple in the space of thin and futuristic smartphone.
Would A Xiaomi Air Device Compete with the iPhone 17 Air?
While Apple focuses on ultra thin, Xiaomi can possibly strike a middle ground between usability, performance, and design. A Xiaomi “Air” can offer:
- A multi-camera system, unlike Apple’s single-lens approach
- A near-flush or flush camera module for a stylish appearance – An under-display front camera for a true bezel-less display
- A thin, compact battery, without the likely battery compromises of the competition
