The Nokia Lumia 1020, notorious for its mythical 41MP PureView camera, has been awarded a second chance, but one that is far removed from what you might have had in mind. One tech wizard and Reddit user, OceanDepth95028, uploaded on r/hackintosh how he had successfully transferred the innards of an iPhone SE 3 into the body of a Lumia 1020—running Apple’s iOS on what had originally been Windows Phone-shipping hardware.
Lumia 1020 Reborn: iPhone SE 3 Meets Nokia’s Iconic Design
This ambitious hardware replacement retains much of the Lumia 1020 aesthetics but integrates the power of the iPhone SE 3, including
- Apple A15 Bionic chip
- 12MP rear camera
- Haptic Engine & Touch ID
- Lightning Port
- 5G compatibility
In a master stroke of design, Touch ID’s sensor was relocated to the back of the phone to maintain Lumia’s classic look. The iconic camera shutter button was also repurposed as a second volume down key, useful as a shutter button within the iOS Camera app.
Preserving Lumia Legacy While Adopting iOS
While the missing original headphone jack, nearly every other Lumia feature has been preserved carefully. The result is an iPhone SE 3 in disguise, running iOS within Lumia 1020’s body, bringing retro Nokia hardware together with Apple’s modern software ecosystem.
This project is a testament to tech modding community creativity, demonstrating that through skill, patience, and creativity, legendary devices can be brought back to life in novel means.
