HyperOS 3 Android 15 vs Android 16: Missing Features

Xiaomi officially rolled out HyperOS 3 in China on August 28, 2025, with a global release started September 24, 2025. This deployment brings two versions to the table: one based on Android 15, the other on Android 16. Notably, this year’s approach is different. Devices running the Android 15 version of HyperOS 3 may not get the follow-up incremental updates like HyperOS 3.1 and 3.2, while the Android 16 group will receive future features and enhancements. To assist users, our XiaomiTime page offers a complete breakdown of eligible devices for both OS variants, ensuring stakeholders can monitor the rollout and stay informed.

HyperOS 3’s update package delivers several user experience improvements and core system upgrades, including:

  • A refreshed set of icons and visual updates for a more contemporary appearance
  • Updated battery and signal indicators for increased clarity
  • “Dynamic Island” notifications, bringing interactive alerts and shortcuts similar to recent iPhone features
  • Subtle UI adjustments to streamline everyday interactions
  • Cross-device iPhone call and SMS forwarding capabilities, enhancing continuity for users
  • Enhanced animations and blur effects, boosting the interface’s overall polish
  • Performance optimizations that reportedly deliver up to 30% greater efficiency

Missing Features

Some features based on Android 16 will be missing on Android 15 based HyperOS 3.

  • Security updates. It’s already embeded to Android 16 but you can get via Android 15 security patches.
  • Android 15 users will not receive HyperOS 3.1

After the global release, Mi Pilot participants will be first in line to field test HyperOS 3. Pending successful validation, the rollout will expand to flagship models, then gradually reach mid-range and budget devices. This phased deployment is a strategic move to maintain software stability and user satisfaction at each phase.

Performance improvements form the cornerstone of this release, focusing on more responsive memory management and faster app launch times. For owners of older devices, these refinements may extend device longevity and improve daily usability—underscoring Xiaomi’s commitment to ongoing customer value and product lifecycle support.

I really didn’t expect to hear false news and messages from Xiaomi employees. You, the CEO of Xiaomi, the manufacturer of smart devices, yourself announced that we will send three full updates to owners of all Xiaomi products for each device. But unfortunately, this news was not true. Because Note 13 Forty received only two full updates and Android 16 should have been given to this type of mobile phone, but you did not stand behind your word and said that it will only receive Hyper 3 with Android 15. My only question is why are you lying? Why are you not keeping your promises? Don’t you think, maybe that’s why you can’t compete with Samsung? Because Samsung executives are honest and precise in all their promises about updates and have more credibility and commitment to their customers. Lying is not good.

Xiaomi must roll out updates for all the flagship and flagship killer phones just like Apple does. Apple rollout the updates for all devices in one go. The same goes for the mid-range and budget-friendly phones. What they are doing is selecting the recent phones, testing, and rolling them out. People are going crazy to get the updates ASAP.

Even though they don’t get security updates anymore, current chipsets can actually last longer, even up to 7 years. However, some phone vendors seem I’m too lazy to optimize major updates, so vendors just release fewer updates instead of getting updates all the time, which actually slows down the device. This is what causes people to always change their cell phones for security reasons (even though it’s actually not very useful). Because Even the latest Android, like Android 15, for example, will still have support for over seven years. For added security, it’s better to use a custom ROM and root your device so that we can be more competent.

On the Poco X6 5G I lost a lot of features, even many of the features were lost from the beginning of Hyper Bug 2.0, such as :
    1. AOD Animations is missing (even though it’s good)
    2. Power usage (Dev options) Even though it is a built-in fps counter from Xiaomi, why was it removed?

this is the thing i hate in hyper bug Xiaomi:
    1. why does the animation when the phone is hot slow down like the iPhone? (even though in the early Hyper OS build (or what I call 1.0) when the phone was hot there was no decrease in animation speed like that.😡😡
    2. Even the built-in GFX feature is no longer helpful for heavy games.🫠
    3. and finally, why My phone always gets updates that are quite longer than the phones that have the latest releases a few months apart? This means that older phones are the same as those that were released a long time ago. This means that older phones are being neglected by Xiaomi. 🥀🥀
