Qualcomm has just officially announced that the Snapdragon 8 Gen5 mobile platform will be unveiled on November 26, marking the company’s next major step in flagship chip development. Early benchmark data shows a large performance jump, further cementing the platform’s position in future high-end Android smartphones.
First Benchmarks Reveal Strong CPU and GPU Improvements
Initial benchmark scores suggest that the Snapdragon 8 Gen5 runs 3055 points in single-core and 10460 points in multi-core on Geekbench 6. Although its single-core performance is close to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5’s 3161, the new chipset shows a meaningful gain in multi-core results compared to the Snapdragon 8 Elite’s 9773 score. The GPU is identified as Adreno 840, with identical architectural improvements as those already adopted on Qualcomm’s top-tier platforms.
These early results position the Snapdragon 8 Gen5 as a balanced and efficient solution for next-generation flagships, including future Xiaomi smartphones that may adopt improved thermal design and AI acceleration.
Architecture Aligned With Snapdragon 8 Elite
As some industry analysts mention, the Snapdragon 8 Gen5 would have a manufacturing process and many technical features in common with the Snapdragon 8 Elite. According to internal evaluations:
- AnTuTu performance surpasses Snapdragon 8 Elite
- Single-core CPU results remain slightly lower
- Multi-core performance exceeds Snapdragon 8 Elite
- Gaming performance matches or surpasses Elite-level models
Alignment indicates the strategy of Qualcomm in bringing its flagship platforms together for scalability, enabling stable long-term development for both the premium and upper mid-range segments. Thus, the Gen5 series is very likely to replace traditional N-1 flagship cycles used for mid-range flagships.
First Snapdragon 8 Gen5 Smartphone Confirmed
The highly-awaited OnePlus Ace 6T, releasing this month in China, will mark the first device powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen5. Positioning itself as a performance-centric model, this smartphone is expected to feature:
- A high-performance gaming core
- A battery capacity of around or above 8000mAh.
- 100W wired fast charging
While not confirmed yet, such setups may affect the future development of Xiaomi’s mid-range flagship. Xiaomi often uses Qualcomm’s latest platforms for its competitive segments, especially under the Redmi K series in China and under POCO branding globally.
