Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 to come with TSMC’s new N3p process

According to noted tech blogger Digital Chat Station, the next SM8850 chipset from Qualcomm, the second-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite, will feature TSMC’s cutting-edge N3p process node. A development first mentioned back in December, it has now been confirmed along with further technical specifications indicating that the next flagship phones from Xiaomi might reach levels of performance unlike anything seen before. With the processor offering great advancements in computer power for mobile computing, it will benefit Xiaomi smartphones in the high-end sector at its disposal straight away and set it ahead of its rivals in processing power and energy efficiency. It is just the kind of cutting-edge technology development for which Xiaomi has always aimed to incorporate in its cell phones.

Architecture and Performance Improvements

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 retains the Oryon CPU design from Qualcomm but keeps the strong 2 super-big cores + 6 big cores lineup. The move ensures compatibility with legacy devices while offering considerable improvements in performance. In the chipset, the Adreno 840 GPU is going to replace the previous generation’s GPU.

One of the most significant enhancements is in the area of cache space, raised from 12MB to a whopping 16MB of autonomous cache. That 33% increase will dramatically improve the processor’s performance in managing demanding processes with lower latency and better overall system responsiveness.

Machine Learning Becomes Increasingly Important

As artificial intelligence plays increasingly important roles in smartphone capabilities, the new chipset has significantly enhanced the neural processing performance:

  • NPU computing power went from 80 TOPS to 100 TOPS 25% increase in processing performance of AI
  • Improved machine learning capabilities Improved support for device-level AI capabilities

Extended Instruction Sets

The next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite will support the enhanced SME1 and the newer SVE2 instruction sets. SVE2 (Scalable Vector Extension 2) is an enhancement to its predecessor by introducing multiple instructions aimed at

  • Computer vision applications
  • 5G comunications
  • MultiMedia acceleration

As opposed to the initial SVE targeting high-performance computing and machine learning scenarios, however, SVE2 broadens its capabilities to include typical everyday mobile operations. This expanded high-performance instruction acceleration technology enables the second-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite to improve considerably the efficiency of its CPUs during AI and multimedia processing at lower average power levels.

Which Xiaomi phones will have Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2?

  • Xiaomi 16
  • Xiaomi 16 Pro
  • Xiaomi 16 Ultra
  • REDMI K90 Pro

For users of Xiaomi wanting to take full advantage of these upcoming processors, the MemeOS Enhancer software is accessible via the Play Store. This software grants access to secret features of Xiaomi, updates to system apps, and screen-based management of updates. As an alternative, HyperOS Updates is downloadable from HyperOSUpdates.com for the most current system improvements.
