SmartSens has unveiled its latest breakthrough in mobile imaging: the SCC80XS, a 200-megapixel CMOS sensor engineered for next-generation flagship smartphones. Built on SmartClarity-SL Pro technology, the SCC80XS leverages a 22nm stack process and a 0.61μm pixel size. The result is enhanced low-light performance, improved color fidelity, and an expanded dynamic range—features that are increasingly demanded by premium handset manufacturers.
Notably, industry chatter has linked Xiaomi’s upcoming 17 Ultra model to SmartSens, though recent indications suggest the OVX10500U sensor will lead that particular series. Regardless, the SCC80XS is positioned as a strong contender for future Xiaomi flagships.
From a technical standpoint, the SCC80XS offers a large 1/1.28-inch sensor size and incorporates advanced features such as PixGain HDR, SFCPixel-SL, and AllPix ADAF. These technologies enable high frame rate and high dynamic range video capture, supporting main, telephoto, and ultra-wide configurations. The sensor stands out for its low read noise—0.7e- in 200MP and 50MP modes, which represents a 47% reduction compared to peers in the industry. Even in 12.5MP mode, read noise remains low at 1.2e-, ensuring excellent clarity and detail.
Optically, the SCC80XS debuts with Narrow BDTI and Low-n Grid technologies. Narrow BDTI minimizes color crosstalk and bleeding, enabling more accurate color reproduction, while the Low-n Grid architecture achieves an impressive 80% peak quantum efficiency. This means the sensor can deliver vivid, lifelike images even in challenging lighting conditions.
On the video and autofocus front, the SCC80XS features PixGain HDR, delivering up to 85dB dynamic range for balanced highlights and shadows. The sensor supports 4K video capture at 120fps and 4K HDR at 60fps across all focal lengths. SmartSens AllPix ADAF and Sparse PDAF focusing systems enable both 100% pixel-level autofocus in low-light settings and efficient phase detection in brighter environments, striking a balance between speed and power efficiency.
SmartSens is a well-established supplier for major Chinese smartphone brands, and Xiaomi is certainly among them. While the Xiaomi 17 Ultra may not feature this particular sensor, it remains highly likely that the SCC80XS will appear in future Xiaomi flagships or sub-brand devices as soon as 2025. With its 200MP resolution, robust HDR, and advanced low-light capabilities, the SCC80XS aligns well with Xiaomi’s vision for next-generation mobile photography under the HyperOS ecosystem.
