Sad decision for HyperOS 1.0 users: No update to HyperOS 2.0

Users of Xiaomi smartphones have received the most bitterly disappointing news concerning the HyperOS operating system. One of the leading providers of smartphones globally is Xiaomi. The firm had replaced its previous MIUI with the new HyperOS to match the market competition with newness and a refreshing shock-and-awe approach.

With this first version, HyperOS 1.0, the base of which turned out to be Android 13, now the approach of Xiaomi was terminally committed to design and functionality. But it had some unwelcome news.

HyperOS 2.0 Next Evolution; Excluded in the Older Devices

Last week, the company also announced a continuation of this route for devices currently running HyperOS 1.0; they will not be eligible for upgrading to HyperOS 2.0. In simple terms, all devices receiving HyperOS 1.0 will be awarded no other chance to upgrade to more major operating systems but will live to end with just that: HyperOS 1.0.

A Closer Look at the Implications

What disappointed many Xiaomi users, though, was that a couple of them had hoped for better support and continued updates, just like the case with the MIUI updates. Speaking, users had something to smile about when HyperOS released the 1.0 version, as it did offer very much more experience than MIUI 14. Some of the regular upgrades were privacy features, considered more enhanced than before, a more fluid User Experience, better battery management, and so on.

However, moving from MIUI to HyperOS, the changes are expected to continue with regular, important updates. This cycle break raises questions about the support longevity for users with relatively new devices to stay in the market.

Technical and Market Implications

There can be quite a number of reasons for the decision not to upgrade the various devices to HyperOS 2.0:

  • Hardware Limitations: Some speculate that the hardware of older devices might not, in totality, equals syncing with the intended features and enhancements of HyperOS 2.0, one that would seriously be anticipated to be based on a new version of Android.
  • Strategic Focus Shift: Xiaomi could be further biased towards the fresher devices, could be seen as a move selling the full capabilities of HyperOS 2.0, and at the end of the tunnel, trigger the flushing out of the market of the old.
  • Software Management Challenges : Managing updates across too many models is complex and resource-intensive. So, companies mostly do away with updating the OS on older devices.

User Reactions and Future Prospects

On the one hand, the users of Xiaomi have reacted understandingly because they know the trouble related to maintaining device support over time. On the other hand, some feel more or less abandoned, expecting this from a massive brand like Xiaomi. This decision could potentially affect brand loyalty for people prioritizing getting through with consistent and long-term software updates. In other words, for the suffering, HyperOS 1.0 shall be maintained, with little updates and security patches in the near term, but they will lose the newly added features and improvements that HyperOS 2.0 brings.

While Xiaomi further develops HyperOS, all eyes are on the firm to know the strategy to support an ecosystem of devices in the future. Although HyperOS was innovative, how Xiaomi does the all-important part of transitioning and supporting its user base will hold the key to its staying afloat in the crazy smartphone market. It is now up to the current user base of HyperOS 1.0 to maximize their current set-up and perhaps wait for a new policy on updates from Xiaomi, which may bring fresh avenues for upgrade options.

I find it disappointing that the company has made that decision. I have a redmi note 12 pro 4G and I am almost certain that my terminal will not receive the update. Since they have not updated it to android 14, being a terminal year 2023 should update until 2025. Xiaomi is behaving badly, after having been a more flexible brand towards updates. Simply tica change brand and look for other alternatives.

Why so much speculation then? They put the youtubers to tell lies…. People trust in this brand and this is a good way to lose users….. I will sell the cell phone then if between now and December something worthwhile hasn’t come out 🙁.

Waste of money. I will never buy a Xiaomi phone again. This is why Apple is the behemoth. They support their devices even old ones. And Xiaomi doesn’t even support 1 -2 year old phones.

We all know this isn’t true, their flagships on 1.0.*** etc will all continue to be updated as they’re inside the minimum guaranteed Android feature updates window.
So Xiaomi 13, 14 series will of course get updated for several more years.

I’d expect ageing Redmi devices from several years ago who DID get HyperOS 1.0 not to get 2.0 for example.

Anyone suddenly jumping up in arms based on completely unsubstantiated facts, with no proof needs a good slap. You’re what’s wrong with the world.

I don’t think this is legit news. There’s really no sources for this, this site often or should i say almost every article is just speculative articles. So unless theres no official word from Xiaomi, take this with big grain of salts.

    It doesn’t even make sense,
I mean its so unrealistic, I can’t believe it and will not believe it, I mean a sane company will never do it with its users, don’t they care about business and stuff, are they here to torture its users? Its B.S.

Now let me clarify something about this. I think it says that the hyper os version 1.0 will not receive updates like improvement in this version of 1.0 . All the phones which are eligible for Android 15 will receive hyperos 2.0 .

It will create a big effect on xiaomi’s sale in the world. Xiaomi should change its planning not to provide updates. I purchased my Redmi Note 12 just 1 month ago and I am unable to get updates. Samsung is great, I will change my phone with Samsung who gives updates regularly, not like Xiaomi.

XIAOMI says the old models will not get HyperOS 2.0. every year some old device are added in EOL list. It’s from starting from every company. Why all are behaving like a fool or an uneducated people. If you people really care about updates then buy stock Android or pixel. No other company wiill give you updates every month.

Last year was the same, this apply only for devices that android 13 was last android update.
If you are stuck with android 14, like me, you will most likely get hyper os2.
Everybody with android 15 will get new update for sure.
Thats the way i see it….

Does this mean that by the very first day HyperOS was launch, all Xiaomi devices are meant to be disposable whenever there will be updates starting from 2.0 to 3.0, so on and so forth? If so, what a terrible idea they have. We all know that innovations are always there. But what about the currently released Xiaomi phones that are still under the HyperOS 1.0 version? Isn’t it unfair to the consumers who just bought these gadgets and will not able to get a chance and take advantage of the said up upcoming update.

Worst experience of buying a Xiaomi phone. We will not get software updates (which is a given from this article), we also never get a regular security patches – only once or twice a year and that too for an year of buying the phone. Better to go for Samsung.
