While Qualcomm is getting ready to officially reveal the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, everything points to a plot twist now with a new chipset, named Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. This processor has been identified with the model number SM8735 and has been under testing by several brands, including Xiaomi, according to tips from HyperOS software.
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 appears to be the successor of the previous Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 (SM8635) that powered devices like the Redmi Turbo 3. Teasers of that early speculation hint at this new SoC being on the upcoming Redmi Turbo 4, which could launch globally under POCO branding. However, it is still too early to make such assumptions as Xiaomi can always bring this chip in different smartphones.
Curiously enough, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 was able to match the performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and analysts are expecting the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 to be equal in performance to the current flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Specific optimizations or architecture changes that the new chip may have, though, remain a mystery.
One thing is for sure, though: Xiaomi and Qualcomm are indeed testing this processor, and with the launch being expected in 2024, more information is given as time nears. The very development has raised eyebrows within the industry, and enthusiasts are curiously waiting for the head-to-head comparison of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 against other next-gen processors.
