REDMI defies the storage crisis: Launches 1TB monster anyway

Yes, the global NAND Flash storage crisis and the resulting surge in component costs are undeniable. Yet, right in the middle of these supply constraints and rising memory prices, Xiaomi has made a bold move by launching a surprise 16GB RAM + 1TB Storage variant for the REDMI Turbo 5 Max.

Zhang Yu: “High Cost, Limited Supply”

Xiaomi REDMI Marketing Manager, Zhang Yu, confirmed the challenges behind this special release. He revealed that producing this 1TB variant under current market conditions comes with significant manufacturing costs, explaining why the stock is deliberately limited:

“The cost is high and the quantity is small. It’s first come, first served.”

When users complained that this high-spec version should have been announced earlier, Zhang Yu emphasized the severity of the supply chain situation: “That’s a very small quantity, and it’s very expensive to produce.”

Pricing & Specifications

The REDMI Turbo 5 Max, already notable for being the world’s first phone with the Dimensity 9500s processor and a massive 9000mAh Xiaomi Jinshajiang battery, now has an updated pricing tier:

  • 16GB + 1TB (New): 3399 Yuan (National Subsidy Price: ~2882 Yuan)
  • 16GB + 512GB: 2799 Yuan
  • 12GB + 512GB / 16GB + 256GB: 2499 Yuan
  • 12GB + 256GB: 2199 Yuan

This move suggests Xiaomi is sacrificing profit margins on this specific SKU to maintain its “price-to-performance” reputation, treating the 1TB model as a “limited run” luxury item in a market where high-capacity storage is becoming increasingly expensive.
