That would amount to a major step for the company’s long-term AI strategy, as Xiaomi reportedly has completed first-generation development of the new smart question-and-answer assistant, codenamed Mi Chat. Industry sources say this product is designed to work closely with the Xiaomi HyperOS ecosystem and future smart devices.
Strategic Focus Behind Xiaomi Mi Chat
Xiaomi has invested heavily in AI over the last few quarters. Lu Weibing, Partner and President of Xiaomi Group, also head of the smartphone business, said AI has become one of the core strategic priorities of the company. Without going into specific technical details about Mi Chat, internal reports say that Xiaomi’s progress in the large models of AI has beaten internal expectations.
This development is based on Xiaomi’s vision to deeply merge Artificial Intelligence with the physical world. According to the company, AI is not only a software feature but a foundational layer that would eventually connect all devices, from smartphones and smart home products to later generations of vehicles and personal devices, into one coherent intelligent experience.
Large-Scale Model Team The role of the MiMo is
A major development behind Mi Chat is the formation of Xiaomi’s MiMo large-scale model team. Industry screenshots shared by analysts in the technology sector show that AI researcher Luo Fuli officially joined Xiaomi, leading advanced model research. Sources say Lei Jun pushed for the adoption of aggressive recruitment strategy to accelerate the development of Xiaomi’s AI capabilities and offered very competitive remunerations to attract top talent.
In October, a joint research paper between Xiaomi and Peking University showed up on arXiv, with Luo Fuli listed as the corresponding author. The collaboration epitomizes how seriously Xiaomi is taking scientifically grounded AI systems rather than merely commercial-ready frameworks.
Mi Chat and the “Human, Vehicle, and Home” vision from Xiaomi
Mi Chat is positioned to be one of the most important interfaces in Xiaomi’s “Human, Vehicle, Home” smart ecosystem. It’s designed to give real-time answers with context awareness and to connect seamlessly with Xiaomi phones, smart home devices, and vehicle systems under one AI roof.
In a scheduled Xiaomi “Human, Vehicle, and Home Ecosystem” Partner Conference in Beijing on December 17, senior executives including Lu Weibing and MiMo model leader Luo Fuli are likely to represent Xiaomi’s next-phase AI strategy. This event has been interpreted as the first official platform from which the long-term positioning of Mi Chat may go public.
Mi Chat aims to move further from the traditions of voice assistants, introducing a practical, intelligent interaction layer supporting daily productivity and complex smart device management while still keeping a tight integration with Xiaomi HyperOS.
