Xiaomi continues to enhance its HyperOS experience, and the new HyperOS 2.1 beta update introduces a minor but significant change to the user interface. So far, the gesture bar along the bottom of the screen had a black or white background, taking away slightly from the usable screen area. Xiaomi now gets rid of the background, relying on a semi-transparent gesture bar, providing the user with an enhanced screen experience. The alteration is a minor but effective one that effectively maximizes the usable screen, without a physical increase in screen size.
This UI update was first discovered in the HyperOS 2.0.108.4.BETA of the Xiaomi 15. While still in its beta version, the sources indicate that it could roll out to the stable versions with the March or April 2025 updates.
How HyperOS 2.1 Enhances the Display Experience
Xiaomi’s semi-transparent gesture bar enables users to watch content without visual obstructions along the bottom of the screen. The modification is particularly beneficial for:
- Full-screen video watching, since the screen isn’t cut into by a solid background.
- Gamming, where all screen space matters to give a richer experience.
- Multi-tasking and web-surfing, with a more streamlined, contemporary aesthetic.
When Will Stable Releases Incorporate This Change?
The new semi-transparent gesture bar is currently being tested on HyperOS 2.1 beta. If the process goes as expected, Xiaomi plans to bring this feature in future stable updates between March and April 2025. The initial rollout has thus far been spotted on the Xiaomi 15 series but is expected to reach other HyperOS 2 phones as part of broader updates.
With HyperOS 2, Xiaomi has focused on UI polish, performance optimization, and smoother user experience. Recent updates have kept Xiaomi’s software in line with modern design trends, with a more refined and captivating interface for the user.
