Meizu challenges Xiaomi with dazzling Global revamp

In a daring move that indicates fierce competition for Xiaomi’s place in the global smartphone market, Meizu officially re-entered the international market. The Chinese company, which is currently under Xingji Meizu’s umbrella having been acquired by car giant Geely, displayed a stunning lineup of smartphones, wearable devices, and smart home devices at an elaborate launch event held in Dubai. The strategic reentry is a major turn of events for the crowded field, which has been dominated by Xiaomi in most international markets for recent years.

Incredible Line of Products Unveiled

The Dubai launch underscored Meizu’s multi-pronged approach to competing with incumbent players such as Xiaomi through several categories of devices:

  • Smartphones: Meizu 21, Meizu Note 22, Meizu Mblu 21, Mblu 22 Pro, and AI-centric Meizu Lucky 08
  • Wearable devices: StarV Air2 smart glasses and StarV Ring2 smart ring
  • Automotive technology: Integration of Flyme Auto into vehicles by Geely

This multi-device portfolio reflects Meizu’s goal to compete head-on with Xiaomi’s ecosystem philosophy, whereby different categories of products form an interrelated user experience.

Rapid Global Expansion Strategy

Meizu was not dawdling, with its products already being sold in more than 30 countries across Asia-Pacific, Latin American, Middle Eastern, Central Asian, and European markets. This aggressive push is reminiscent of how Xiaomi expanded to gain its worldwide presence.

The roadmap for the company involves entering major markets during Q1 2025:

  • Southeast Asia: Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam
  • South Asia: Sri Lanka
  • Oceania: Australia

These markets have been bases for Xiaomi, which implies that Meizu is specifically going for its rival’s entrenched user base.

Technology Innovation Emphasis

Evidence of its devotion to state-of-the-art technology, the international version of Meizu’s StarV Air2 smart glasses boasts Arabic translation capability, bringing its overall number of supported real-time translation languages to 14. It reflects consumer demand established by Xiaomi’s own AI programs.

Backed by automotive assets at Geely, Meizu is also utilizing Flyme Auto to bring its technology into vehicles sold to the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Asia-Pacific, providing a singular benefit that will set them apart from others like Xiaomi.
