Today, Xiaomi Group Partner and President Lu Weibing shared insights into the design philosophy for the Xiaomi MIX Flip, representing Xiaomi’s first small folding screen mobile phone. He revealed that much consideration had been given to male users while researching and developing the MIX Flip in terms of performance and endurance.
The brief was to easily attain the standards common for regular flagships candy-bar phones, so at the very least, it can guarantee performance and long battery life to go with that unique folding screen experience.
A Different Approach to Foldable Phones
The comments by Mr. Lu Weibing come a few days after the Xiaomi MIX Flip had been launched into the market on July 19. It will be fitted with a powerful third-generation Snapdragon 8 processing chip and a large 4780mAh battery, supporting 67W fast charging, making it destined to become one of the strongest competitors in the foldable phone market. The device is expected to sell at a subsidized price of 5,999 yuan, offering innovative design while ensuring top performance.
Market Response and User Demographics
According to an early reported article from IT Home, everything went well since the launch of MIX Flip, boosting Xiaomi’s second-quarter financial performance in 2024. The demand remains strong, while the time it takes for delivery becomes pretty long due to orders. Interestingly, 32% of the Mix Flip users are former iPhone users, which indicates it has managed to capture those people who intend to change brands. Moreover, 55% of the users are female, hence making the product’s appeal wider than it was initially targeted during its design stage as targeting men.
The near immediate success of MIX Flip on the market proves that Xiaomi took a well thought-out step towards diversification of its product line with innovative designs to satisfy different tastes and preferences among users. Apparently, as the company further perfects its approach toward foldable technology, Xiaomi wants to appeal both to existing users and people who want to look for new ways of using their smartphones.
